Happy New Year to you all!
If anyone's a parent or coach of adolescent kids going through growth spurts you'll understand what a nightmare it can be. "Managing the storm" I once heard it called.
Well, at Speed Academy, this is the main demographic and accounts for about 80% of our young athletes. Most of whom are at professional academies but still require expert help.
On January 20th, for the first time, I'm running a workshop at Trinity University. I'll be letting loose all the information I've gathered over the past 5yrs and the systems I've devised to deal with everything from Osgood Schlatter's lesions to tight hamstrings.

Growth Spurts in Youth Football If you're a football coach having growth related issues with one or more of your players, then this workshop will answer all your questions: What can I do to stop them from getting injured? Is there anything I can do to help them once they are injured? Will they get their strength/speed/coordination...
We always try to end our youth sessions with some fun competition.

Numbers are 1 dimensional. Sport is 3, 4, 5+ dimensional.
It’s easy to get excited about your numbers improving. Whether it’s your 10m sprint time, your 1RM squat, vertical jump or any other test.
They provide information, but should NEVER be the focus of your training.
Sport is random, reactive and chaotic with many things vying for your attention at once.
Yes get stronger.
Yes get faster.
Yes do more.
But the goal is being able to produce higher quality movement and decision making under greater levels of stress and to be able to do it with consistency week in week out.

Movement mastery should be the primary training objective.
You have no idea how competitive this game gets.
We use it as a general warm up after foam rolling to get them switched on.
Massive bragging rights for the rest of the session and they usually ask to repeat at the end as well.
It’s obviously great fun, but so many transferable skills being developed here that are great for football but not necessarily developed by playing football.
