We are incredibly proud to share that Master Kambiz R.Ali, Founder and Head Instructor of Harrogate K.R. Ali Taekwondo Academy, has been named in The King’s New Year Honours List 2026 and awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to Taekwondo and the community in Harrogate.

This prestigious national honour recognises Master Kambiz’s lifelong dedication to Taekwondo, his leadership, and his outstanding contribution to the local community. A 7th Dan Black Belt, he founded Harrogate K.R. Ali Taekwondo Academy in 2005, inspiring generations through the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.

This is a moment of great pride for our academy, our members, and the wider Harrogate community.

🔹 Freestyle Poomsae – Music & Choreography
• Competitor’s choice: Athletes select both the music and the choreography for their routine.
• Neutral content only: The music must not include political, social, or religious themes.
• No lyrics: Tracks must be purely instrumental, with no singing or spoken words.
• Exact timing: The piece must be edited to last between 90 and 100 seconds.
• Penalties for violations:
• Music outside the 90–100 second range will result in a score deduction.
• Music that breaks the above rules leads to disqualification (DSQ).
• Pre-event submission: Competitors normally send their chosen track to the tournament committee before the competition.
• Final approval: An appointed official reviews the music and either confirms approval or requests a replacement.

🔹 Pattern 1 – Taegeuk Il Jang (World Taekwondo Federation Style)
This is the first Poomsae in Taekwondo.
It stands for Heaven and Light, the bright beginning of life.

Main techniques include:
• Low block (Arae Makki)
• Mid-section block (Momtong Makki)
• Middle punch (Momtong Jireugi)
• Front kick (Ap Chagi)
• Walking stance (Ap Seogi)
• Front stance (Ap Kubi) – a long walking stance

This form builds balance, correct stance, and respect, the base for all next patterns.

🔹Korean Terminology for Beginners 🥋Yellow Belt (8th Kup)

For students beginning their Taekwondo journey at yellow belt, these are the some of most important Korean terms used in early training. Learning them builds confidence, discipline, and understanding of class structure.

🥋 Basic Commands
• Charyot (차렷) – Attention
• Kyong-rye (경례) – Bow
• Joon-bi (준비) – Ready stance
• Shi-jak (시작) – Begin / start
• Goman (그만) – Stop / finish
• Bah-ro (바로) – Return / relax
• Sheo (쉬어) – Rest

👊 Stances (Sogi)
• Charyot Sogi (차렷 서기) – Attention stance
• Joon-bi Sogi (준비 서기) – Ready stance
