💡We often get asked, "What exactly is ESD and why is it such a big deal?"

The answer starts with understanding what ESD actually is, so let's break it down.

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) is the sudden transfer of static electricity between two objects. Static electricity builds up naturally through everyday actions, such as walking across a carpet or vinyl floor, removing packaging or even moving in a chair. When that built-up charge is suddenly released by touching a conductive surface or electronic component, it creates an ESD event.

Actions as simple as handling a component without the correct precautions can generate enough static to damage sensitive electronic parts.

In many cases, that damage isn't immediately obvious. Components may continue to work initially but fail later, leading to product failures and costly rework.

That's why ESD control is such an important part of electronics manufacturing, and it goes far beyond wearing a wrist strap. It's about understanding where the risks come from, how to minimise them and create an environment that protects both your products and your business.
