For over 20 years, we’ve been helping women build confidence in fitness.
That’s always been at the heart of Gymophobics - creating a welcoming space where women feel comfortable to start, keep going, and progress at their own pace.
It’s not just about exercise, it’s about feeling supported, staying consistent, and growing in confidence along the way.
And that mission is just as important to us today as it was two decades ago.

Why is community important in fitness for women?
Because it’s easier (and a lot more enjoyable) to stay consistent when you’re not doing it alone.
We hear it all the time - ladies say “I almost didn’t come”… but they’re always glad that they did.
At Gymophobics, we have a ready-made community of women ready to step in and support you.
From your very first session, you’re not on your own. You’re surrounded by women who understand the journey, encourage each other, and help make showing up that little bit easier.

Why is resistance training so important for women?
Women face unique physiological changes across life - including lower baseline muscle mass than men, and significant shifts during perimenopause and menopause that can accelerate muscle and bone loss. This makes strength training especially important.
It helps support bone density (reducing the risk of osteoporosis) and builds and maintains lean muscle mass, which naturally declines with age. It also boosts metabolism, helping the body use energy and burn calories more efficiently, even at rest.
On top of that, it improves everyday strength and function - making daily tasks easier - and supports long-term health, independence, and vitality as we age.
It’s not about changing your body - it’s about strengthening it so it supports you through every stage of life.

The ABCDE of skin cancer is a simple guide to help notice changes in moles or skin lesions:
A – Asymmetry: one half doesn’t match the other
B – Border: edges are irregular, blurred, or jagged
C – Colour: uneven colour or multiple shades
D – Diameter: larger than about 6mm (roughly a pencil eraser)
E – Evolving: any change in size, shape, colour, or symptoms (like itching or bleeding)
This doesn’t diagnose anything, but it’s a helpful way to know when something might need checking.
If you notice any of these changes (or anything new or unusual on your skin) it’s important to speak to your GP. Early assessment makes a big difference, and it’s always better to get reassurance if you’re unsure.

It’s National Walking Month - the perfect excuse to get moving.
There’s nothing better to complement your Gymophobics workout than stepping outside, soaking up some sunshine (hopefully!), and getting those steps in.
Whether it’s a quick stroll or a long walk, every step counts.
