⛳ Greenkeepers’ update ⛳

After one of the driest Aprils on record, Sunday’s rain brought us more water in a single day than we saw all month! The course is still crying out for more though, so with May now here, our full irrigation programme is officially underway. 💧

Here’s what the team have been working on recently👇

🌱 Every sprinkler head across the course is currently being checked and adjusted to help keep the greens smooth, healthy and in top condition.

⛳ The White and Indigo tees will return to their usual positions on Wednesday 6th June following remedial work after rodent damage… news that might not suit everyone! 👀

📍 A reminder that winter rules and preferred lies have now ended across the course.

💦 On quieter weekday afternoons, you may spot sprinklers running while you’re out playing. We’re giving tees and greens some extra water where needed, but don’t worry, you should only come across each sprinkler once during your round.

🏖️ Our bunkers have taken a hit from the recent heavy rain, so the team have been busy de-compacting and topping up sand levels. We’re also carrying out a full bunker audit this week to keep conditions consistent across the course.

Thanks for your continued support and if you can help us by repairing pitch marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers after use, we really appreciate it 🙌

What a start to the year for our junior members 👏⛳️

Our players have been out competing in county, national and mini-tour events, and the results have been brilliant.

Recent highlights include:

🏆 Lyra Brears – winner of Division 2 in the first Yorkshire Girls event of the year

🏆 Ollie Pritchard – winner in his first Ping Junior Tour event

🏆 Phoebe H**e – winner of the Faldo Futures event and qualifier at Garforth Golf Club

🥈 Ethan McDaid – runner-up at the Faldo Futures qualifier at Pontefract Golf Club and qualified

🏆 Spencer Cooper – winner of the first two Faldo Futures events at Waterton Park and Hickleton

🏆 Max Hollinghurst – tied 1st in the Junior European Open Qualifier, 2nd in the Robert Rock Under 21s at London Club, and 2nd in the North Yorks Schools Champs

🏆 Hudson Cooper – winner of the Ping Junior Tour at Windermere, plus Faldo Futures wins at Waterton Park and Carus Green

🏆 Phoebe Cooper – winner of the Faldo Futures events at Carus Green, Waterton Park and Saltburn by the Sea

There have been plenty of other strong performances too.

The hard work put in over winter is already paying off, and we’re proud to see so many of our juniors enjoying their golf and competing so well.

⭐Order of Merit - the results are in! ⭐

Our juniors have been playing 9-hole competitions every other week through winter, and it all came down to the final event.

Karly came in with a third place finish to leapfrog Fin Aveyard and Lyra Brears to take the Order of Merit by just two points.

She’s been seriously impressive all winter, and is definitely one to look out for.

A huge shoutout to all the Leeds Golf Centre women who represented the club in this year’s Winter Alliance events.

They delivered some fantastic performances throughout the season, finishing strongly with an excellent second-place result at Alwoodley in the final event.

A brilliant effort all round - thank you for representing the club so well this winter.

Leeds Golf Centre team member Joel Rushworth took on some of the country’s top pros at last week’s 2020 Pro Tour event at Manchester Golf Club and delivered in style.

A superb 4-under par saw Joel finish in 6th place.
