In scorching conditions, Methley Thunder took to the pitch against a fantastic Rothwell Town side in what proved to be a real battle from start to finish. Both teams gave everything in the blazing sun, showing great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

Polly ❤️⚽️🌟
She was immense in defence. Her strength and fearless tackling helped keep Rothwell Town at bay on numerous occasions, never shying away from a challenge.

Megan ❤️⚽️🌟
This young lady worked tirelessly around the pitch, showing excellent movement and awareness. She was instrumental in breaking up opposition attacks and helping the team transition from defence to attack.

Hattie ❤️⚽️🌟
What a super performance! She made some outstanding saves throughout the match, and you could see her confidence growing each time. Her bravery and concentration were brilliant to watch.

Dixie ❤️⚽️🌟
Our little firecracker was a constant attacking threat. Her awareness of teammates, especially Mia and Lucy, created several opportunities for goals. She delivered some lovely passes into the box and tested the goalkeeper with some excellent shots.

Parent’s Player of the Match: Lucy 🏆🌟⚽️❤️

What a performance from Lucy! She covered every blade of grass, playing all over the pitch. Her tackling was incredible, and she showed fantastic teamwork throughout the game, always willing to help her teammates and battle for every ball. She played a perfect centre-mid position today. Well done!

Coach's Player of the Match: Mia 🏆🌟⚽️❤️

Mia epitomised determination today. She battled from the first whistle to the last, never giving up despite the challenging heat. She kept firing shots at goal and constantly worked hard to keep the Rothwell Town defence on their toes. Even when she was tired, Mia dug deep and continued to push forward, showing tremendous character and effort.

A huge well done to all of the girls for their hard work and resilience in such difficult conditions, and thank you to Rothwell Town for a competitive, enjoyable and well-played match.

What a way to end an epic season ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Match Report – Methley U15 girls vs Holbeck (2–4)

After a show-stopping performance at the weekend for the reds, switching our weekly training session for a midweek match didn’t go our way.

Holbeck took an early lead with a quick move down the left, playing through to the striker who found the back of the net. Despite enjoying the majority of possession, the girls couldn’t find an equaliser before the half-time whistle.

Holbeck extended their lead from a corner to make it 0–2. Methley continued to create chances but couldn’t quite find the finish until Esmae got her left foot behind the ball to get on the scoresheet.

Holbeck responded quickly with a third goal from a free kick on the edge of the box. They were then forced down to 10 players after their goalkeeper struggled with an injury, but still managed to maintain their lead and add a fourth.

In the closing minutes, Lucy P drove forward for Methley and managed to nutmeg the keeper, an unfortunate error to make the final score 2–4.

Methley’s first home defeat of the season, but plenty to learn from the game, ahead of next week’s final title decider.

It is with real disappointment that, as a club, we have reached the decision to cancel this year’s summer gala weekends.

This would have been our 13th year of running club galas — events that have been highlights of so many summers and something we as a club have always been immensely proud of.

Over the years, visiting teams have repeatedly told us how much they have enjoyed attending, and that reputation is something we value hugely.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons this year, we have been unable to secure enough visiting teams and volunteers to allow us to run the events successfully.

We know many grassroots clubs are facing similar challenges, with league seasons running later into the year and reducing the window available for summer tournaments, meaning local clubs are often competing to host events on the same weekends. Alongside that, grassroots football is increasingly feeling the impact of changing family commitments and the growing challenge of finding enough volunteer time and support to deliver events of this scale.

We remain incredibly proud of our club, our teams, our volunteers and all our members, and of the reputation Methley United has built for hosting galas people genuinely want to attend.

This is not the end of Methley United galas forever — but sadly it is not possible this year.

All teams who entered will receive a full refund and will have been contacted directly.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
