🌿 What a fantastic weekend at the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Bushcraft Competency Award!

One thing that really stood out was that we had more women than men taking part in the training this time. While bushcraft has traditionally been seen as a male-dominated activity, weekends like this show just how much that is changing.
The IOL Bushcraft Competency Award is a valuable qualification because it goes beyond simply learning skills. It promotes safe, responsible, and professional bushcraft practice, encouraging participants to develop their knowledge, judgement, and teaching ability. It provides a recognised benchmark for those delivering bushcraft experiences and helps raise standards across the sector.

Seeing more women achieving these qualifications and trainings is important. Representation matters. When women are visible as skilled practitioners, instructors, and assessors, it helps challenge outdated stereotypes and inspires others to step forward with confidence. Female role models show that bushcraft, outdoor leadership, and wilderness skills are for everyone.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took part this weekend. It's inspiring to see the growing diversity within the bushcraft community and exciting to think about the next generation of outdoor leaders who will follow in their footsteps.

An evening of two halves: one group choosing to push beyond their comfort zones, embracing self-discovery and personal growth; the other lifting each other up, sharing encouragement, strength, and support.
Together, they proved that with courage, connection, and belief in themselves, they can achieve more than they ever imagined. πŸ’«
