Friar lane under 12’s 23-24 season

12/10/2026

After our tough start to the season not only on the pitch but off the pitch we knew our fixture with the Croft royals was a game that could give us a much needed boost providing we were to take the points and we did just that with amazing attitudes determination work rate and togetherness coming out 2-0 winners away from home and deservedly so let’s just hope we can use this as our starting point to build up some momentum ⚽️🖤🤍🧡 CLEAN SCENE Royston Bates Guest Motor Group Friar Lane & Epworth FC

**The match might finish at 12:00.
The coach’s day doesn’t.** ⚽

While everyone else heads home, thousands of grassroots coaches are still going.

Muddy kit to sort.
Equipment to put away.
Team sheets and admin.
Parents to message.
Next week’s training to plan.
Another pitch to find.
Another problem to solve.

And somewhere amongst all of that… there’s a family and a life of their own too.

Most aren’t doing it for money.

They’re doing it because **a group of kids is relying on them to turn up again next week.**

That’s the part of grassroots coaching people don’t always see.

So if your child has a coach who gives up their evenings, weekends and spare time to keep their team playing…

**Give them a bit of appreciation today. 💚**

**This is why grassroots football matters.** ⚽💚

Of course, they’re learning how to play football.

But look at everything else they’re learning along the way.

How to be part of a team.
How to make friends.
How to win without getting carried away.
How to lose and come back next week.
How to make mistakes and keep going.
How to support somebody having a tough day.
How to belong.

Most won’t remember the score from this weekend.

Some won’t even remember who scored.

But they might remember **the mates standing beside them for the rest of their lives.**

Football gives them a ball to chase.

**Grassroots gives them so much more.** 💚⚽

Somewhere this morning, a child is already dressed for a match that doesn’t kick off for another two hours. ⚽

Boots on. Breakfast barely touched. Asking whether it’s time to leave.

That’s what Sunday football means to them.

There’ll be goals, mistakes, muddy knees and decisions we don’t agree with. Back the kids through all of it. Give the referee a fair chance and the volunteers a hand.

They’ve waited all week for this. Let’s make it a good one! 👏
