Wimbledon line judge turned comedian Pauline Eyre is coming to Carisbrooke

Visit celebrates women’s tennis at Carisbrooke, with two ladies teams in the Premier Division for the first time in 40 years

Carisbrooke Tennis Club in Knighton will be welcoming a unique visitor next month, as the Wimbledon line judge turned comedian Pauline Eyre joins the club’s ladies for a hit on court ahead of her Leicester Comedy Festival show.

Pauline will be bringing her stand-up show ‘Anyone for Tennis?’ to the festival on Saturday 7 February, part of a 50 venue UK tour. Before taking to the stage, she will visit Carisbrooke to play tennis with members of the thriving ladies’ teams.

Pauline spent 20 years as a Wimbledon line judge, officiating at 16 Championships and 12 finals. Her show has received four and five star reviews after a sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe and a nomination for Best Show at the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards. The show promises “tennis gossip from the fragrant royal box to the musty locker room, and why judges are OUT!”

This visit will form part of the celebrations of women’s tennis at Carisbrooke. For the 2026 season, the club has achieved the rare distinction of fielding two ladies’ teams in the Premier Division, something not seen at the club for 40 years. In total, Carisbrooke has six ladies’ teams across the competing divisions, reflecting a growing number of women of all ages choosing to play competitive tennis.

Ladies first team captain Annie Kavanagh said “It is 40 years since we have had two ladies’ teams in the top division. This reflects the depth of our players at the club and commitment of our captains and teams.”

The club welcomed another high profile visitor recently, with former British No.1 and World No. 4 Greg Rusedski visiting Carisbrooke in January to coach one of the club’s up and coming junior players.
