"A tough one to write up.

Not the result we wanted, but another gutsy and determined team performance that showed just how far we’ve come as a squad.

Take nothing away from a well-drilled Birstall side who were competitive throughout, but this felt like a game we lost rather than one they won.

There were some huge hits, some great flowing rugby and plenty of moments where we showed exactly what we’re capable of. We come away with 2 points, but it definitely feels like we left another 3 out there on the field.

As a team, we know what we need to work on. We know where the opportunities were missed, and now it’s about putting that right on Thursday.

Plenty of dogged rugby, huge commitment and, most importantly, that never-quit attitude right until the end.

But looking at the weekend as Club Captain, this was also a weekend to celebrate.

For the first time this year and for the last few years, we had two teams out representing the club and playing competitive rugby. Our 2nd XV might not have got the result they wanted either, but the result was almost secondary to what that game represented - players getting valuable game time, pulling on the shirt and giving us a genuine second team.

That is a massive step forward for this club.

It shows the commitment of the lads turning up each week, the growth of the squad and where we are heading together. Having two sides out on the same weekend is something everyone connected with the club should be proud of.

One club. Two teams. One badge.

Proud of the effort. Proud of the fight. Proud of how far this group has come.

We regroup, we learn, we get back to work Thursday and we go again" 🏉

- Ben Howe, Club Captain

"A gutsy, determined win on the road to kick off our league campaign! 💪

Up against a well-drilled Syston side, we knew we’d have to work for everything. In true Jimmies style, the lads took the bit between their teeth, dug deep and came away with a hard-fought result.

Some standout individual performances, well-worked team play and bodies-on-the-line defence showed what this group is all about. Everyone played their part and fought for each other until the final whistle.

Couldn’t be prouder of the boys. Plenty to build on and still things to sharpen up, so we’re back at it Thursday to keep putting the work in.

Up the Jimmies!"
