Introducing our coaching Team for 2025-2026 academic year.

Sam is an experienced powerlifting who has competed both nationally and internationally for the university. He offers 1-1 coaching online and will also act as a head coach for the team during team training and at regionals & BUCs.

Ellie is a national level lifter who previously competed at BUCs last year & is looking to reach the junior and BUCs comps in 2026. She has plenty of experience and is doing her Level one British powerlifting coaching qualification later this year. Ellie will be running female only taster sessions & then taking on the role of BUCs captain offering support throughout the year for all our lifters.

Our 4th member of the committee for the 2025/26 year is Ruth!

Ruth is coming into her second year and is looking to do her first comp later this year!

Our third member of the 2025-26 committee is Ben.

Ben has previously been on committee before but is picking up a new role to push the team forwards.

The second member of the 2025/2026 committee is Ellie!

This is Ellie’s 3rd year as a committee member and has plenty of experience to help grow the club further.

Returning to his role from last year & hopefully pushing the club further.

Our chairman Sam is competing tomorrow at the World University Championships in Istanbul turkey.

Sam is currently nominated first with a 740kg total.

Wishing him the best of luck at the competition.

Tomorrow we have Kane competing for the first time in the U83kg weight class.

Kane is looking to set some PBs and get some experience in for the start of next year. Wishing him the best of luck.

This week we had Ella Brincat-Smith compete at the Bench World Championships in Drammen, Norway. She managed to secure a silver medal on the international platform. This was an amazing achievement and someone to keep an eye on within the club!

DMUbarbell Sports day 2024

This weekend we have 2 lifters competing at the British University Championships.

In the u52s we have Ellie Makin making her debut at BUCs. Ellie is our previous chair and women’s captain and will be competing Friday morning at 10am. We are really excited to see what she puts together!

In the 83s we have our current chair Sam Walker who is looking to secure his spot to the university world championships in Turkey. Competing at 3pm Saturday.
