The final award of the night is something that we havenât done on DMU Snow before, however for this person we thought it was totally appropriate.
We have decided to bring in a âSpecial Recognition Awardâ, and have awarded it to .heron . Alex has been a core member of the society since he first joined in his first year three years ago. Not only did he immediately find his feet and bond with every single member, but his attendance to training, socials, and competitions was unmatched by any other member. DMU Snow was incredibly important to Alex, which is why he was Social Secretary/Ski Captain during his second year of uni. Alex has helped the club go from strength to strength, and not only is he a valued member of the society, but he is a key and core member of the team, with his exceptional racing abilities.
Alex has been a fantastic member of the club for the last three years, and I know the team is going to severely miss him next year.
Iâm sure all of our members share some kind of memory with Alex (ok, it might not necessarily be a good one) but thatâs just shows what a valued member of the society he is.
Thank you Alex for all that you have done for us, we would not be in such a fantastic position that we are without you.

Next up we have the âOf the Yearâ Awards.
This year has been an exceptional year for DMU Snow, and it would not have been possible without these core members.
Skier of the Year is awarded to Sophie Houghton. Not only has Sophie joined us this year, but her consistency and her enthusiasm in all training sessions and competitions is something that has shone through to all members of the club. Sophieâs effort in training sessions is absolutely fantastic, and she is continuously striving to do better, as well as being fantastically consistent. Similar to Dan, these attributes have landed Sophie the role as Ski Captain next year. We wish you all the best Sophie.
Boarder of the Year is awarded to none other than our big boy Flo Rida. As you have seen from our social media posts, Flo has been an absolute core member of our society, in our Kings winning and BUCS placing team. Not only did he perform exceptionally well for his team, but individually he managed to place 12th in the country, even though he spends all of training trying to learn new skills on the kicker rather than racing. We are so proud of you Flo!
And finally Freestyler of the Year. This one has been hard to gauge, considering Freestylers donât really get the competition time they deserve. However we have decided to award this to Ben Walker, as every week at training we have seen him improve and become a fantastic freestyle skier, as well as having the balls to throw whatever shape he wants off of the kicker. Well done Ben, we will miss you next year.
Once again, congratulations to all â¤ď¸đ¤

Our awards night begins with our âMost Improvedâ awards.
This was so tough to decide, so for Most Improved Skier we have two members. First up is Jenson has gone above and beyond to try and improve his ability, and my god he definitely has. Jenson has come on leaps and bounds from last year, and has even found himself competing in the first team. Congratulations to Jenson for this award! For Most Improved Skier, we also have . Now Kate started out with a fantastic skiing ability, but her racing ability was new to her, so something she had to learn. Towards the end of the year, Kate has also stepped up to the first team and has found her feet as one of our most consistent members. Congratulations to Kate also.
Next up we have Most Improved Boarder. We have awarded this to Dan Moore, as, again, last year Dan was just getting used to racing, and this year he has now found his feet in the first team and is one of our most consistent members that saw the team win bronze at BUCS Dome Series Midlands. This step up and consistency has now seen Dan take the role as Board Captain for the 2020/21 season. We wish Dan ALL the luck in the world for this role.
And finally, is our Most Improved Freestyler. Now, definitely a racer at heart, we have Matt âThe Biggest Benâ Pendlebury claiming this award. Matt has been with us for three years now, but in his final year he decided to tackle the big bad kicker at Val DâStoke and he DEFINITELY threw some steeze off of it, something that none of us had the balls to do! So congratulations to Matt!
Well done to all of our winners, we canât wait to see what next year brings â¤ď¸đ¤
Disappointed to have not won this award but a huge congratulations to DMU Men's Football! You guys are great
