Last month, I took up the role of Girls’ Development Officer at Castle Donington FC and I have already had the opportunity to coach a couple of players from our U12 girls team.

As a child, I never saw much female representation in the game. I didn’t have many female coaches or role models within any of my clubs to show me what was possible. That’s why it’s something we are so passionate about now.

If we can help even one young girl believe they belong in football and inspire them to keep playing, coaching or getting involved in the game, then we’re doing something right!

Not every young player struggles because of a lack of ability.

Sometimes it’s a lack of confidence.

That’s why our sessions are built around more than just technical development.

We create an environment where players feel comfortable to make mistakes, ask questions, and keep improving without the fear of getting it wrong.

Confidence grows when children feel supported, challenged at the right level, and enjoy what they’re doing.
