The Essex Yacht Club was founded in 1890 and has occupied the same site, on the foreshore East of Leigh-on-Sea ever since.

Originally founded in 1890, and situated about a quarter of a mile east of picturesque Leigh Old Town, the Essex Yacht Club is a family club and is particularly proud of its Cadet section, with over 100 cadets. It’s unique feature is its headquarters – a ship. HQS Wilton is a conversion of the first ever glassfibre warship, the Mine Hunter HMS Wilton. An extensive sailing program runs from Easter

Cadet Week 2025 – Day 3 done!
The breeze has kept us on our toes, the sun’s made a few guest appearances, and the cadets are absolutely smashing it out on the water ⚓️⛵️
A few moments from Day 1 & 2 while we catch our breath before the next race 💨💙

What an incredible day at Essex Yacht Club!

Alongside our Cold Water Swim between the slipways, where brave swimmers took on waters at just 6°C, we also celebrated Cocktail Sunday with members enjoying Blue Lagoon cocktails. To top it off, we marked National Yorkshire Pudding Day with some delicious Yorkshire pudding snacks.

Thanks to everyone who took part and supported us, we’ve raised over £500 for the Hanningfield Sailability Project, who help to provide life-changing sailing opportunities for people of all abilities.

Today marked the first day of Cadet Week 2021, however due to high winds sailing was cancelled.

Keen to stay by the sea & help the local community our junior cadets took part in the beach clean, removing 6 bin bags full of litter from Southend’s beaches.

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh – former RYA President and RYA Honorary Member.

Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen, RYA Patron, The Princess Royal, RYA President and the entire Royal Family at this time.

Today we pay tribute to not just a keen, competitive and successful yachtsman, but also an outstanding President of our Association who dedicated many years to helping protect and promote our sport. Read more at http://rya.org/XJ8150EkyDZ

The sailing committee have been working hard to finalise this years programme. We are pleased to announce that racing will recommence on the 2nd April (COVID permitting).

The Sailing Programme has now been uploaded to the website. This means you can sync it with your phone's calendar and download a PDF of all upcoming races.

Just visit https://essexyachtclub.co.uk and click the "Subscribe" button in the sidebar (or the subscribe icon near the bottom of your page on mobile).

If you synced the calendar with your device last year all the 2021 events should appear automatically for you within 1 week.

The Commodore & General Committee would like to wish all members a Happy New Year.

Despite the challenges faced by all in 2020 a large number of members still managed to spend lots of time enjoying the water.
Hopefully 2021 will bring more exciting sailing opportunities as well as a return to the club’s social programme.

Stay Safe and we look forward to welcoming you back aboard the Wilton when we are allowed to re-open!
