On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the club staged a black belt (Shodan) grading for eligible candidates. This was overseen and graded by Jan Van Der
Dries Hanshi and his Sihian
Colleagues.

The result was that four senior
Black belt (Shodan) grades were awarded; as well as two junior black belts.

This means that the Club now has a healthy bank of Shodan grades, with the six awarded this summer added to the previous four awarded in 2025.

The attached image is of the successful candidates/new shodan grades (back row) with Jan Van Der Dries Hanishi, and his colleagues (front row).

Congratulations to all successful new Shodan grades on their achievement.

On Saturday morning (20 June 2026), the annual summer Gassukum was a open (all grades) session, with tuition being split between (1) seniors - brown belt and above and (2) Juniors - white to purple belt.

In both cases the sessions were led by Jan Van Den Dries Hanishi and his Dutch Sihian colleagues.

The attached images derive from those tuition sessions.

Finally, in our summary of Ryoshin Karate's community engagement work, the priority of our funded activity in 2024-26 has been societal issues relating to men and boys.

Using Goju Karate training, we positively addressed the issues of alienation and dissatisfaction that commonly afflict males in modern day society. We have used our training to reach and influence males of all ages, emphasising the benefits of self-discipline, respect and cooperation within our target group.

We did this as the main thrust of our strategy, whilst also maintaining previous work on increased female participation and disability empowement.

In doing so, we have established a solid base of innovative community engagement/cohesion work that we will continue to progress in future. Moreover, we have increased our membership, contacts and partnerships and changed lives for the better as a result of our work.

Many thanks to our partners in delivering the project and the community lottery fund for financially supporting the initiative in 2024-26.

Attached below is a selection of images relating to our work over that period.
