We've got a private game taking place in the Tavern Room from 19:00, so we just ask everyone to be respectful of the adventurers behind closed doors.

The side door will be open, though, and the rest of the Tavern is ready and waiting for everyone coming down for Open Game Night!

It's Commander Night at the Tavern, and tonight we're heading into mono-black territory with a Vampire commander who does things a little differently...

🩸Timothar, Baron of Bats! 🩸

Forget simply flooding the board with Vampires. Timothar wants them to die.

Whenever one of your nontoken Vampires bites the dust, Timothar can exile it and leave behind a 1/1 flying Bat in its place. Get that Bat through for combat damage and your fallen Vampire comes straight back to the battlefield!

That opens the door to some wonderfully nasty mono-black shenanigans:

🦇 Sacrifice your Vampires for value
🩸 Turn their deaths into evasive little Bat tokens
⚰️ Bring them back and abuse those ETB/death triggers all over again
💀 Pack the deck with black's ridiculous sacrifice, recursion and removal tools

And with Ward - Discard a Card, even getting rid of the Baron himself comes with a price.

It's Vampire tribal with a proper graveyard twist. And most importantly...

D&D Jnr returns to the Tavern this afternoon!

Our young adventurers are split across age-bracketed tables, helping them play alongside people closer to their own age while keeping each group small enough that everyone gets their chance to speak, make decisions and be part of the story.

And if they've never played Dungeons & Dragons before? Brilliant.

No experience is needed, and we're more than happy to help brand-new players learn as they go. They don't need to know every rule or have years of experience, they just need an imagination and a willingness to see what happens when the dice start rolling 🎲

We've got limited spaces available, so if you've got a young adventurer who'd like to give D&D a try, message the Tavern directly and I'll let you know what we've got available.

From our Midnight Pre-Release through to Friday evening, the Tavern was absolutely packed with people cracking packs, building decks, discovering new cards and journeying into Middle-earth together.

And you lot made it one of our best Pre-Release events yet. ❤️

A particularly huge thank you has to go to Helen and Joe from the North West Computer Museum, who stepped in and provided catering for our Midnight players, keeping a Tavern full of sleep-deprived Magic players fed while we continued slinging spells into the early hours. 😂

It was massively appreciated by myself and everyone who joined us.

And, of course, thank you to every single person who came through the doors.

Whether you joined us at Midnight, came along Friday evening, helped someone with their deck, celebrated somebody else's ridiculous pull or simply sat across the table and played some bloody good Magic...

You made the event what it was.

These nights are always a hell of a lot of work behind the scenes, but seeing the Tavern full, hearing the tables laughing and watching this community continue to grow makes every bit of it worthwhile.

The maps are ready, the dice are waiting and this afternoon another collection of questionable decisions will be made in the name of adventuring! ⚔️😂

D&D Junior returns today from 15:00 – 18:00!

Our young adventurers will be gathering around the tables once again to explore strange lands, face dangerous enemies, tell some fantastic stories and almost certainly attempt something their Dungeon Masters hadn't planned for.

Just the way D&D should be. ❤️

⚠️ A little note for our older table today!⚠️

Your usual DM is away for the day as they're currently in the process of moving, so your regular campaign will be taking a short break this week.

BUT - that does not mean you're being banished from the Tavern!

You're still absolutely welcome to come down. 😁

Fancy jumping onto one of our other tables as a guest adventurer for the day? We'll find you somewhere to cause trouble.

Or if you'd rather just come down, hang out at the Tavern and listen to the adventures unfolding around you, you're more than welcome to do that too.

Sometimes it's quite nice being the mysterious traveller sitting quietly in the Tavern while everyone else's party gets eaten by an Owlbear. 😂
