Staying safe during a heatwave 🚨

The Met Office has issued a severe high temperature warning across the UK over the coming days. While we know you’ll still want to hit the dry slope, it’s important to stay safe in the heat ☀️

Hot weather can impact anyone but especially older adults, children, those with health conditions and anyone spending long periods outdoors.

Here are some simple ways to stay safe while skiing or riding:

💧 Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty

🧴 Protect your skin — wear high-factor SPF and reapply regularly

🧢 Dress smart — lightweight, breathable layers + protective equipment only when required for racing or training purposes

🧠 Listen to your body — take breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion

🤝 Look out for others — especially younger or less experienced participants

🛻 Avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat & don’t bring pets in hot weather

✅ Check local updates from your club or facility

⚠️ If you or someone else shows signs of heat exhaustion, move somewhere cool, hydrate and cool the skin. Seek urgent medical help if symptoms worsen or don’t improve.

Dan Poth joins Snowsport England staff team

Following the appointment last week of Katie Ormerod as Pathway and Competitions Co-ordinator, we're delighted to announce that Dan Poth has become our second Pathway Co-ordinator, focused on alpine.

Dan brings extensive experience as a former alpine racer, as well as a coach and club owner. Over the past 12 years, he has worked with athletes from grassroots to competitive level, developing a strong understanding of athlete progression across England.

The Snowsport England alpine pathway was halted over a decade ago. Following extensive internal work and review of best practice across sports and nations, we will soon move to consultation with clubs, academies, parents, coaches and stakeholders on what we believe is a critical new talent development opportunity. Dan's role will be focused on supporting the co-ordination of our alpine pathway, through the consultation period to pilot and beyond.

He said: "I have been involved with snowsports all my life and I am very excited to join the team to support the development of the alpine pathway.”

What a weekend for the English Slopestyle Champs 🙌

So much talent on show all day from both skiers and snowboarders, with an unreal atmosphere from start to finish. Huge thanks to everyone who competed, supported, judged and helped make the event what it was, and a special mention to GB Head Coach Pat Sharples for the fantastic talk and for hosting👏

We are incredibly proud to announce that David Manns has been made a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s Birthday Honours List for services to Snowsport!!

His nomination talked about his decades of service to the Sport and in particular, his work as a race official and his support of the officials pathway where his work has taken Snowsport across the UK to a different level with an impact not only within Snowsport England but felt within Snowsport Scotland Snowsport Cymru Wales and GB Snowsport.
