Great Witchingham Cricket Club

Great Witchingham Cricket Club Welcome to the official page of Great Witchingham Cricket Club. Great Witchingham Cricket Club (GWCC) was established in 1924.

At this time the club only played friendly matches on Saturdays and some Sunday cup competitions winning The Norfolk Junior Cup in 1932. In the late 1970's the club started to develop the current ground of Walcis Park. In 1979 we made it our new home and entered the King's Norfolk League Division 5. We quickly progressed through the divisions gaining first division status in 1983 where we stayed for 12 season winning it no fewer than five times. When winning for the fifth time in 1995 we were finally accepted into the Norwich Union Norfolk Alliance and progression through the divisons in this league has been gained culminating in winning the Alliance Premier Division in both 2004 and 2006. Year 2007 saw the club enjoy it's first season in the East Anglian Premier League, where we have stayed and we look forward once again to finishing as high on the league table as possible.

2021 saw the introduction of our ladies softball team. Softball is a great way to take the first steps into the sport, with the main focus being building the key skills, but most importantly having fun. The club currently runs 2 senior saturday sides, a sunday team, a ladies softball team and junior teams including u11's, u13's,u15's, u17’s and u19's, along with the ECB’s All Stars programme. New senior and junior members regardless of age or ability are always welcome. So spread the word about our great club and encourage people to come down.

On a serious note - check in on your mates cricket isn’t just a game it’s a way of life and cricket clubs are so important to peoples mental health and wellbeing.

If you are struggling reach out to loads of support out there - we are blessed in Norfolk to have the 8;56 Foundation charity and 8:56Cricket cricket team that covers our area but there are a lot more out there as well.

We got to the semi finals of the 100 Cup and also finished 3rd in the league as well.

So much positivity in the group can’t wait for 2027

For the first time in our history we fielded a 4th XI in the league led by Jim Clarke - fielding a good mix of wise heads and youngsters starting their cricket journey we finished bottom BUT learnt so much - looking forward to bouncing back in 2027

Our 3rd XI had a good season finishing 7th with a great mix of Youth and wise heads - led by Robbie Edwards and Tim Woods they improved week on week with the junior players really coming to the forefront

Ranjan Bhattacharrya led with the bat and Young Joe Rogerson was the leading wicket taker for the club
