Left foot, Right foot, Finish🎯

Another solid week of sessions in the tank and already looking forward to more sessions with you all again next week!🔋

In the meantime, here are some solo finishing drills that I run in sessions. They incorporate ball mastery and finishing off both feet.👣

The purpose of these drills are to enable you to:

1. Manipulate the ball to create space for a shot
2. Move the ball out of your feet to improve shooting body shape and accuracy
3. Develop confidence in striking the ball with both feet
4. Find the target with your back to goal
5. Score when cutting in from wider starting positions

Body shape is crucial when striking a ball, once your shooting shape is right, the power and accuracy will come💥

Challenge yourself by playing off one or two touches and by having little recovery between reps to improve your endurance finishing💨

FTF sessions cover all these drills and coaching points in greater detail and all tailored to your level of playing experience✍️

Enjoy your Euros weekend and COME ON ENGLAND! 🦁🦁🦁

Player - Position - Passing

These passing accuracy drills are designed to develop player reactions and passing accuracy based on playing position🎯

Drills such as these are what I believe makes 1:1 training so valuable compared to normal team sessions.

Here you can really take the time to work on specific playing position mechanics, which through repetition, develops individual player confidence🛠📈

In the first clips, Joe is working on movements playing in a number 10 role by moving into the pocket of space in front of defenders and playing passes on the half-turn into forward areas. In wide area crossing drills, Joe is practicing placing accurate crosses into dangerous areas based on the call from a teammate🗣

Marcus playing a holding midfield role, his passing accuracy drills are based on short, sharp box to box movements to create space to retain possession under pressure or link the attack🔗

Chris playing in a centre back position, his passing accuracy drills are based on quick turns to open up his body stance to enable him to play out-balls to his fullback and winger when under pressure💥

The key outcome of these drills is achieving consistency. It’s no secret that the best players are able to consistently find their target pass through repetition of these style of drills🔑

Finish the week strong💪🙌

I want to share a couple of clips from finishing drill variations that I have incorporated into recent sessions🔋

Joe can play anywhere across the front line, so his shooting drills incorporate short, sharp movements in behind defenders or quick turns off either feet with his back to goal to create space for the shot⚡️

Marcus plays a box to box midfield role, so his shooting drills involve starting his movement from deeper in midfield and arriving late to the edge of the penalty area to shoot (known as 3rd man runs). In this instance, I imitate a striker/midfielder setting up the strike like it would happen in a match situation⚽️

Some great strikes to show in there (off both feet) and always looking to place shots in hard to save areas in the bottom corners🥅🎯

The content I have shared over the past couple of posts is aimed to highlight the importance of different styles of agility training.

I am a big advocate for always training with a ball at your feet, but I also know that it is the additional work in this style of training that can create the marginal % gain differences between the good and very good players.

I have created 8 drills that put your agility and footwork attributes through their paces using agility discs🥏

These drills require sharp changes in direction, effective bodyweight distribution and dynamic spatial awareness:

1. Reverse toe-taps
2. Lateral toe-taps
3. Zig-zags
4. Reverse Zig-zags ⚠️ Important check over your shoulder at each turn to see opposition players + keep your eyes down the pitch to see where the ball could appear👀⚠️ (Turn and face as the coach says!)
5. Zig-zags using outside foot touches ⚠️ Important to shift your bodyweight fully outside the ball at each disk turn⚠️
6. Slaloms
7. One legged hops
8. Two feet in/out disc

FTF sessions go into greater detail on the mechanics of what I have shared, but as ever, I will continue to share content and tips on our social media platforms that I feel is valuable in developing your game.

Previously we climbed ladders, now we jump over Agility Hurdles👆

Agility hurdle training is great for improving your balance and co-ordination. However, the hurdles place a greater focus on developing explosive power and dynamic lateral movements, also known as a form of plyometric training.

For football players, plyometric training using agility hurdles are important in developing quick changes of direction whilst also strengthening various leg muscle groups, knee joints and your core strength to enable such explosive movements.

I have 7 different variations here that focus on explosive lateral movements and footwork:

1. Kneeling to standing hurdle jumps
2. One-legged lateral hops
3. One legged piston hops
4. Two legged bunny hops
5. One legged bunny hops
6. Lateral footwork shuffles
7. Lateral shuffles with volley pass return

The key to this style of training is control - don’t rush the exercises as that is when injuries happen.

Let’s finish the week strong💪
