Whittington FC fell to a harsh defeat in a well contested game against old foes Whittington Utd.

Whittington FC took the initiative from the start playing some good football and controlling possession for good periods of time.

Edward Hardy had a good effort early on that just went wide and Olly Chapman also had a good chance to opening the scoring. Joe Thombs came the closest when his shot rattled the crossbar, unfortunately VAR wasn’t there to see if it crossed the line after hitting the bar.

Whittington Utd then delivered the ultimate counter punch jumping on a bit of poor play and taking the lead with a good finish. Half time 0-1

The second half was a more even affair and Whittington Utd extended their lead with another good finish. Whittington FC however didn’t give up and were awarded a generous penalty when Louis Wilkins was brought down. 16 yr old Joe Panting stepped up and finished it well, has he now broken the voodoo with our penalties? Unfortunately Whittington Utd countered immediately and a great through ball lead to their 3rd. Once again though Whittington FC did not give up and Edward Hardy fired home through the crowd from a corner. More chances were created but the equaliser couldn’t be found. The keeper, the crossbar and a goalline clearance all kept Whittington FC out.

It was a defeat but plenty of positives💪🏻

Cam Maxwell and Alex Reid both had a great first game, player of the match was Sam Thombs for a very strong performance throughout🤝

Hi all, our first team player Sam Thombs is doing his dissertation at uni and needs your help!!

My name is Sam Thombs and I am a University of Birmingham student currently completing my dissertation/project in collaboration with Rising Ballers. As part of this project, I am working with Rising Ballers to better understand how young football players engage with football content and what types of content they are most interested in.
The aim of this research is to explore the viewing habits, preferences, and interests of youth football players, including the types of football content they consume, how they discover new content, and their interest in content focused specifically on young players and the youth football pathway.
To support this research, I have created a short questionnaire that will be shared with youth football players. The responses will help provide valuable insight into what young players enjoy watching, what content they would like to see more of, and how Rising Ballers can continue to develop content that better connects with the youth football community.
The questionnaire should take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. All responses will be collected for research purposes and will remain anonymous.
I would greatly appreciate your support in sharing this questionnaire with suitable players and helping contribute to this research project.
