Driver "Gap Setup" Drill ...
Setting the driver clubhead roughly 3 to 6 inches behind the ball at address is a designed to simplify the swing and promote an upward strike.
By starting further back, you reduce excessive wrist hinge and encourage a more stable torso turn.
How to Perform the Drill …
Address: Set up to the ball normally, but move the driver clubhead back about 3 to 6 inches along the target line.
Focus: Keep your head stationary and focused on the point where the club is grounded, rather than the ball itself.
Takeaway: Start the swing with the hands and arms already slightly in motion from this "early" starting position.
Swing: Focus on a smooth torso turn without picking up the club with your wrists.
Key Benefits …
Encourages Upward Attack Angle: Placing the club back helps you stay behind the ball, making it easier to hit up on it for maximum distance and higher launch.
Stabilises Shoulder Alignment: Setting the club behind the ball helps close the shoulders at address, preventing an "over-the-top" move.
Promotes In-to-Out Path: Starting the swing further back makes it easier to deliver the club from the inside, encouraging a draw ball flight.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks
I wanted to say a huge thank you to Joel for the guidance, encouragement, and support that helped me complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 11 hours and 12 minutes at the start of May. His structured training, motivation, and belief in me throughout the journey made such a difference, and I couldn’t have achieved it without his support. His help gave me the confidence and preparation I needed to achieve this.

As part of our recent Open Weekend, we were delighted to welcome a fantastic local animal rescue charity to the club. Their visit was a wonderful addition to the weekend, giving both members and prospective guests the opportunity to learn more about the incredible work they do within our community.
The charity’s efforts extend far beyond rehoming animals. They run a vital neuter and microchip scheme, help reunite lost pets with their owners through scanning, carry out thorough home checks, and provide ongoing support to smaller, lesser-known rescue organisations and sanctuaries that don’t receive national funding. Their dedication truly makes a positive difference to so many animals and families.
We’re also excited to announce that we will be working closely with them on Saturday 3rd October for our very first Dog Show here at the club! 🐶
What to expect:
• 🐾 Entry fee of just £2 per dog, with all proceeds going directly to the animal rescue charity
• 🐾 A variety of local animal organisations in attendance
• 🐾 Informative talks and advice on adoption and fostering
• 🐾 Opportunities to learn more about volunteering and supporting local animal welfare initiatives
It promises to be a fantastic, feel-good day for the whole family (including our four-legged friends!). Registration forms will be available soon—so keep an eye out for more details.
Thank you to everyone who supported the charity during our Open Weekend, and we look forward to seeing you and your furry companions in October!
