I had the pleasure of meeting Colin Jackson today at the David Ross Educational Trust Summer Cup where over 1500 young people gathered for a day of athletics, hockey, swimming, and more.

We chatted about Strong Girls, youth sports, and his own 75 year old mum taking up weightlifting. Despite being the guest of honour, he even stood up at one point and offered to make the entire table a round of tea and coffee.

I have had the privilege of meeting several Team GB Olympians over the years, and they have been without exception kind, humble, and passionate about sport. Meet your heroes, if they wear the Lion! 🇬🇧

I will be starting work with some wonderful students at Thomas Middlecott Academy, watch this space for our adventures!

Ever wondered what we actually DO at a Strong Girl Squad Summer Club day? Swipe to see!

1. Lifting: The driver behind SGS is to help girls find their strength and this starts in the gym. Expert coaches teach girls how to lift weights safely and effectively - and they are always strong than they think they are!

2. Eating: We serve fresh, delicious, healthy food prepared daily in our on-site kitchen. You have to eat big to lift big, and our girls are taught that food is fuel for fun.

3. Shopping: We collect donations of period gear and toiletries, as well as gently loved sports kit, bras, and trainers. Every day, each girl is invited to take One Thing She Wants, and One Thing She Needs, free of charge.

4. Crafting: We are always making stuff. Usually a mess.

5. Laughing: We welcome girls aged 11-16 of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes to join us for a hilarious afternoon of fun and friendship. Older girls can play too, as volunteers!

We have some exciting news to share.

This is our fifth year of running our award-winning Strong Girl Squad SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB. In that time, we have met hundreds of girls and supported them towards greater physical and mental strength. We are back for another year of lifting, laughing, crafting, food, friendship, and foolishness. The dates are shown in this post.

LIFT OFF!
Girls only weightlifting workshops
We are also running a series of 8 two-hour long sessions focussed entirely on lifting and gym time. These sessions are called LIFT OFF! and are perfect for girls who love the lifting portion of our regular holiday club offer, or who just want to dip their toes into the SGS experience.

HERE COME THE BOYS!

This year Lincolnshire County Council have approached me to ask if I would be willing to run some programming for boys. The answer was a swift and emphatic YES. Any government funding that can be used to help young people access sport is a step in the right direction, and so I’m proud to announce a series of 8 two-hour long workshops just for boys which we are calling RAISING THE BAR.

All of these sessions are FREE for children who qualify for free school meals, and there are paid places available for other children who would like to attend.

The dates are here below, and the booking system is set to go live on Wednesday 24 June. I will post it when we are live.

I’d like to thank all of my volunteers for making the last 5 years so amazing, and my business partners and our members for opening your doors and hearts to a bunch of teenagers who need a place to feel safe.

This is Lohla.

Lohla is one of the funniest (loudest), happiest (cheekiest), strongest and most wonderful Strong Girls we’ve ever had.

Lohla has systematically sought out all of the quietest and shyest girls in the club, brought them to her table, and looks after them.

Here, she is reading the Heartstopper books to one of her friends (and doing all the voices).

In a world where you can be anything, be a Lohla.💜
