Happy Easter! 🐣

Every Easter weekend a team of volunteers heads down from Lincoln to Bray Lock to marshal the Devises to Westminster canoe race; a gruelling 125 miles of paddling from Devises wharf to Westminster Bridge. Cheering paddlers on, supporting paddlers and their support crew through the portage on their way to Westminster throughout the night!

We don’t have any crews competing this year but our volunteers are still there supporting this epic event!

This week some of our environment team headed to the Make a difference awards.

Earlier this year we were nominated for a Green award for our work in the local area removing invasive non native species of plant and litter and getting people involved in their local community improving the health of the river.

We didn’t win, but we were in the top 4 from nearly 400 nominations and we received a ‘highly commended’ award for the hard work put in by our volunteers.

Working in partnership with other local organisations we are keen to get more paddlers in the local area out on the water helping the efforts locally to remove invasive species and litter from our rivers.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers who work hard to remove INNS and litter on a regular basis and organise sessions.

Our paddlers are out in almost all weather! The recreational session had fun learning some skills this weekend followed by a short trip through the city to stamp end!

Huge thank you to our members, river care Lincoln paddlers and the local paddling community for coming out to support efforts to collect Floating Pennywort on the Upper Witham - it’s now free from pennywort! 💪🏼🪷

We are very proud to announce that we are FINALISTS for BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Make a Difference Awards!

Our club’s environment group has been nominated for a Green Award, a category recognising where people are brought together to improve our surroundings. 💚

Environment group lead, Mike, said “Speaking with Sue Taylor, the station's award coordinator, I described how seeing photo's of environment work on the club website had been instrumental in encouraging me to join the club, also evidence of the club's commitment to environmental work, through having an award for environmental contributions, alongside the presentation of racing trophies, at the agm dinner this year”.

Today our environment group volunteers joined East Mercia Rivers Trust Paddle UK RiverCare & BeachCare at a joint effort to clear floating pennywort from the catchment drain on the Fossdyke Canal.

Our environment group have been out in force in recent weeks to tackle the growing mats of invasive species, it was great to have a multiagency team on site today to continue the work, working together to improve the health of our waterways.
