The Five Domains Model is used to assess animal welfare through identifying key areas that influence an animal's ability to survive and thrive in their environment đ
The four physical or functional areas of environment, nutrition, health and behavioural interactions all feed into your horse's mental state â in other words, how they're feeling and responding to a situation.
World Horse Welfare has a handy guide to the Five Domains Model and how you can apply it to your own horse's care. You can access it, plus test your knowledge on the model, here đ https://bit.ly/WHW_FiveDomains

Quality over quantity. So important to remember. đ
âď¸Mindset Mondayâď¸
âAm I doing enough in my training?â
Itâs one of the most common worries I hear from riders â and itâs often the thing that creates more tension than the riding itself.
We all put pressure on ourselvesâŚ
To ride more.
To train harder.
To stay consistent even when life, work, darkness, weather and horses have other ideas.
And with social media showing everyone elseâs âperfectâ routines, itâs easy to feel like youâre falling behind.
But hereâs the truth, just remember:
Your horse doesnât need a 7-day training week. They need consistency, clarity and calmness â not constant intensity.
You donât have to do more to make progress, focused, purposeful training will always take you further than doing âmore for the sake of more.â
You have to do the right things for where you and your horse are right now.
Some weeks will be great.
Some weeks will be messy.
Some weeks will be full of lifeâs chaos.
Thatâs normal â and your horse doesnât judge you for it.
Quality matters far more than quantity.
3 focused rides will always beat 6 rushed ones.
And rest days can be just as productive as schooling days.
So if youâve been asking yourself
âAm I doing enough?â
let this be your reminder:
You are doing more than you think and you are doing enough.
Your progress comes from showing up with intention â not perfection.
And your horse feels the difference.
