Courtney didn’t need someone to tell them to “try harder.”
-
They’d already done that.
-
They’d also tried the opposite.
-
Before we started working together, other coaches had tried approaches that encouraged them to train multiple times a day every day or just once a week if that’s what their body felt like.
-
Both approaches left them in the same place: swinging between extremes.
-
When I asked what had been stopping them from reaching their goals, their answer was immediate:
-
“Straying too far in either direction.”
-
So that became our focus:
-
Learning how to push enough to make progress & pull back enough to stay consistent.
-
Because the goal isn’t just a lower number on the scale at any cost.
-
It’s building a gender-affirming body.
-
A body that supports the adventures they want to live.
-
A body that feels stronger, more capable, & more aligned with who they are.
-
All while managing MCAS, POTS, starting T, a demanding career, & a life full of activities they love.
-
That’s what sustainable coaching looks like:
-
Doing the right amount, consistently.
-
If you’re tired of bouncing between “all in” and “I’ve completely fallen off,” my coaching is for you.

Things that gave me more confidence in my body:
-
1️⃣ Realising that solid, lasting confidence has nothing to do with appearance.
-
So I focused on acting in a way that would make me confident, not trying to look the part.
-
2️⃣ Realising that my body changes all the time & I’ll never be in full control of it. I can only control my behaviours.
-
That helped me stop being so afraid of gaining weight as I was when I developed anorexia.
-
In hindsight, the ED was a fear of losing control over my body.
-
3️⃣ And yes, getting results also made me more confident, & I’m proud of the physique I’ve built.
-
But I’m prouder of what I did to build it vs what it looks like.
-
What’s something that has made you more body confident?

⬆️ This is what happens when you’re a coach & you’re into cosplay, Hazbin Hotel, & specifically Alastor the Radio Demon…
-
(Thanks Comic Con Manchester for the great shot.)
-
Anyway, I’m not saying that cardio is useless for fat loss.
-
But I wouldn’t rely on it as your primary means of achieving a deficit, especially given all the issues with correctly estimating how many kcals it burns.
-
I would include it in your plan in order to get fitter, also knowing that it does burn kcals & therefore will help with fat loss.
-
But I would make your diet the main tool.

I used to think that weight goals were outright unhelpful.
-
I’ve changed my mind since.
-
There are some circumstances when it’s reasonable to set one.
-
But if you’re using an arbitrary number, then you have no idea how it’ll make you look or feel.
-
And if you fixate on a single-digit number, well, I’ve got news for you…
-
Your weight fluctuates all the time.
-
And if you chase a number instead of focusing on building muscle, eating well, & proving to yourself you can keep the promises you make to yourself,
-
Then the only thing you’ll get out of it is looking smaller.

The “You look like” trend was pi***ng me off because do we really need more encouragement to make assumptions on others based on their appearance?
-
Then I thought I’d make it my own & show you what I mean rather than just preaching about it.
-
Now I feel like the Acheans inside the Trojan Horse.
-
Anyway, if you want to work with a coach who won’t make assumptions about your “willpower” based on how you look…
-
… You’re in luck, because my physique isn’t Instagrammable enough for me to be considered a decent coach, so it’d be hypocritical of me to judge. 🤣
-
(According to haters, of course. I’m proud of & confident in my physique. 💅)

Over the years, I’ve worked with many clients who were afraid that training legs would make their dysphoria worse.
-
In reality, I’ve found the opposite:
-
1️⃣ You’ll become ridiculously strong.
-
Everyone naturally carries more muscle in their lower body than their upper body.
-
As a result, your lower-body lifts will usually become your strongest lifts.
-
And, in very scientific terms, deadlifting your bodyweight or more for reps makes you feel like a badass.
-
2️⃣ You’ll build a more balanced physique.
-
Bodybuilders often aim for what’s called an X-frame: broad shoulders, a relatively narrow waist, and well-developed legs.
-
Training your legs doesn’t make your upper body look smaller. It makes your overall physique look more balanced and athletic.
-
And if you only train your upper body, you may end up with impressive shoulders and arms sitting on top of “chicken legs.”
-
Or, if you carry more body fat in your lower body, your upper half may simply look much more developed than your lower half.
-
Neither creates the balanced physique most people are aiming for.
-
The goal isn’t to build legs that overpower your upper body.
-
It’s to build enough muscle to create a balanced X-frame while prioritising upper-body growth to achieve the coveted “Dorito” shape.
-
In the last two months, I’ve been sending comprehensive training guides to each body part to my newsletter subscribers.
