🥋🔥 KATA NIGHT 🔥🥋

Another great Kata Night last night at Malvern Shotokan Karate Club!

With the recent grading completed, this was the first opportunity for each grade to return to the kata they had been learning and developing for their new grade.

Rather than simply running through the movements, each group worked in detail on their specific kata — breaking down the techniques, transitions, stances, timing, direction and application to really understand what they are doing. 🥋

⚪️🟠🔴🟡 Lower Grades
Working through their new kata step-by-step, building confidence with the movements and beginning to develop the correct rhythm, technique and understanding.

🟢🟣🟤 Intermediate & Senior Grades
More emphasis on technical detail, transitions, timing, kime and understanding the purpose behind each movement.

⚫️ Advanced Kata
A particularly detailed session working on Meikyo and Meikyo Nidan, focusing on precision, movement quality, timing and the finer details required at an advanced level.

Kata isn’t just about remembering a sequence, it’s about continually refining the movement and developing a deeper understanding of the techniques.

More detail. Better understanding. 🥋💪

Well done everyone! 👏

🥋🏆 Junior Grading Success – September 🏆🥋

Following our recent club grading, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our junior students at Malvern Shotokan Karate Club.

A huge congratulations to all of our students who successfully achieved their next stripe belt!

Every stripe is a reflection of the hard work, effort and commitment they have put into their training. It’s fantastic to see our younger students continuing to develop, improve and progress on their karate journey.

🥋 Grading & Advanced Session Highlights 🥋

Here are some more photos from our recent training and grading with Alan Campbell Sensei, 8th Dan JKS and Chief Instructor of JKS England.

Following the grading, our advanced students took part in a fantastic session focusing on freedom of movement.

We began with Kihon, exploring how we can allow the body to move naturally and freely throughout each technique.

This focus then carried into Kumite, with the same emphasis on allowing the body to move freely throughout the technique, while developing timing, distance, control, and awareness.

We finished with Koten Kata, Meikyo Nidan, bringing together the themes of movement, technique, and purpose from throughout the session.

A fantastic way to finish a brilliant day of training, learning, and development.

A huge thank you once again to Alan Campbell Sensei for his instruction and guidance, and well done to everyone who attended.

🥋 Another Fantastic Grading Day at Malvern Shotokan Karate Club! 🥋

We were delighted to welcome Alan Campbell Sensei, 8th Dan JKS and Chief Instructor of JKS England for another excellent day of training and grading.

We were also pleased to welcome members from JKS Chester, JKS Llanbedr and JKS Bolton, who joined us for the training and helped create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

We began with a pre-grading session focused on technique, purpose, and understanding within training. It was a great opportunity for students to look beyond simply performing techniques and consider why we train the way we do.

We then moved onto the grading, with students from Malvern and JKS Chester taking part.

Although this was a smaller grading than usual, the standard was extremely pleasing, with a fantastic 100% pass rate and some particularly standout performances.

Every student who graded should be extremely proud of their effort, commitment, and performance.

A huge congratulations to everyone who graded, and thank you to everyone from Malvern, Chester, Llanbedr and Bolton who attended and contributed to such a positive day.

A special thank you to Alan Campbell Sensei for his instruction, guidance, and expert assessment.
