Wavertree Cricket Club are seeking expressions of interest from individuals and teams for a short form (possibly T10 / Hundred) Saturday league to be played at a single venue (Sandown Playing Field, L15) at weekends in the summer of 2025.

As a club we have a charitable purpose to provide cricket facilities and opportunities for the community and recently we have been invited to manage a new cricket resource installed by the city council on Sandown Playing Field. We are interested to explore if there would be demand for cricket from people whose work and family commitments make the traditional league cricket offer difficult.

Our initial thoughts are that umpires, scorers, balls, stumps, flags would all be provided. Costs of running the league would be paid for by the participants. . Teams would receive a fixture list at the start of the season with details of their opposition and the start and finish time of their game. We believe there is room for 10 teams in such a league (assuming we stick to it running on just a Saturday)

Expressions of interest are sought at this stage from
Individuals keen to play who do not yet have teams they play in
Individuals who represent groups of players and or teams.

Time Line

Sept / October 2026 - expressions of interest sought

November / December 2026 - consultation period to establish format, rules, philosophy, costings, funding etc. What do those who are interested in this want from it - you can shape it!

Jan / Feb 2027 - teams and individuals sign up.

April - pilot phase, games take place to establish timings and any teething problems.
May to July - implementation phase.

The long shadows of autumn can hide the blossoming of years and years of investment from club volunteers in women and girls cricket. Over 70 women and girls at tonight's end of season social and cellebration. Irish Bingo proved a supprising success. HUGE thank you to all the volunteers.
