Congratulations to John Hughes who today retained his Merseyside Billiards Shield beating Phil Johnson in the final. Semi Finalists were Richard Whittle and Matty Jackson. This is the 8th year in succession that John has won this event which is testament to his quality of play. The Plate was won by Edward Fielding who beat Joe Maloney in the final. Highest break was an amazing 164 by Matty in the group stages against Antony Cooke. Full results in the photos. It was good to have two junior players today with Ethan Llewellyn and Ethan Grice both giving good accounts of themselves. As always big thanks to the Mill Brow Club for hosting the event.

A fantastic finals day at Scotties where both the Senior Interleague and Intermediate competitions were played to a finish with drama to the very end.

Well done to the Garston League, winning the Merseyside Intermediate competition for the second successive time, beating Wirral 3-1 in the Quarter Finals, followed by a 3-1 win over NMSL ‘B’ in the last four before securing the title with a 3-1 win over St Helens ‘B’, with Danny Kwan sealing the victory. It was a great triumph for Garston in what is their league’s 80th Anniversary year.

In the Merseyside Senior Interleague competition, Ormskirk are the new champions following their dramatic blue ball shoot out over a gallant Prescot & Liverpool team after a tense 3-3 draw in the final. Earlier Ormskirk beat Formby in the semi finals which needed to be settled by a blue ball shoot-out win (2-0), whilst Prescot & Liverpool secured their place in the final following their (yet another 3-3 draw ) but a high quality blue ball shoot out against Wallasey.

Mersey Scratch League (MSL)

A format has been put together for a Team Scratch Snooker League, to hopefully begin in September that will not in anyway clash with any affiliated leagues across Merseyside. This has been the most important factor in putting this concept together.

For many years, players have wanted a scratch league due to them being handicapped out of the leagues they played in for years.

Brief format for the inaugural league to be discussed is as follows.

• One league consisting of 8/10/12 teams
• Two matches played by each team at a nominated venue every TWO months on a weekend day.
• A team to consist of 4/5 players (squad to be no more than 8 players)
• Each player will play TWO frames in a match.
• Team names can be named after a club, district, and have an extra name (Warriors,Tigers etc) similar to Rugby League etc., this will add to the new ethos and vibe of a new high quality scratch league.
• The league will be registered on the UK League Snooker website
• Each venue should have at least 3/4 tables to host 4 teams on one particular match day, one match played on two tables.
• There will also be a Team Cup KO and an Individual KO.
• There will be a Finals Day for both Team and Individuals competitions.
• Cost per team £200 with good cash prizes. Prize breakdown will be published after the meeting at Scotties on Sunday 14th June at midday.

Anyone wishing to enter a team, and any interested sponsors, should send an email to:
[email protected] or send a message via WhatsApp to 07850030916
