A major win for the Cyclists’ Defence Fund.
After Cycling UK intervened, West Midlands Police has apologised for wrongly seizing and destroying a legal e-bike.
The force has acknowledged the roadside test used was not accurate, confirmed the process will stop immediately, cancelled the rider’s ticket and said it will progress compensation.
West Midlands Police has said there was no malice and that officers believed they were acting lawfully.
But it shows why proper guidance and testing matter.
Legal e-bikes help more people cycle. They must not be wrongly treated as illegal vehicles. Because of CDF, Cycling UK was able to act quickly and help secure a fair outcome.
