And finished! Signal at the finish line was non-existent but I made it in just over 4.5 hours. Really happy considering the temperature from mid morning onwards.
Last call for donations - please do put some money in the virtual pot. Banham are matching all donations to their staff team so your money will be doubled for this great charity.

With just under two weeks to go until the event it can mean only one thing... I'd better get the weight back on!
The Royal Marsden hospital do amazing things for their patients and I couldn't be prouder to help them. If you can spare anything to help, please do click the link below.

Having had a few days to rest and reflect on my walk, I thought I'd share some more of my experience.
While I finished at the 50k mark, I can't bring myself to be disappointed with that. To have gone that far with a weighted vest in under 12 hours (including rest breaks) is no small feat. Indeed, at most of the rest stops when I put the vest back on to leave for the next stage most comments were along the lines of 'you're wearing a WHAT mate?' followed by 'why would you do that??'
The Ultra Challenge team that put these events on are marvellous, as are the people that support them on the day - the trekmasters, cheer squad and everyone that helps. There is also a great sense of camaraderie among the walkers, with everyone happy to talk and support you as you go on your way.
There is also great support from members of the public, from a 'well done' and a smile to the lovely household just before the 47k marker who had a table of goodies and a sign saying help yourself!
I am still fundraising and running the competition to win the big jar of sweets in one of the pictures below. Donate at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/john-burgess24 and leave your guess as a comment. I will announce the winner on 30th September so keep the guesses and donations coming, it's all for a great cause!

Unfortunately, just under 12 hours from starting, my Thames Path Challenge came to an end at the halfway point. Those that have been around me the last week will know that I have had that nasty little cold that’s going around (not COVID I hasten to add) and probably shouldn’t have started at all! I have been held together with painkillers since the first quarter and discretion is the better part of valour in this case. Maybe next year!
