Looking at Jun Fan, so a lot of reps, lots of footwork, and real deep dive into the mechanics of the trapping motions.

Our Jun Fan month hits the ground running, hard. Excellent work and focus this evening. Lots of straight blast punches, and wonderful work on progressive indirect attacks.

Hitting our Jun Fan theme with straight blast punches. Looking at correct, piercing striking from the offset. Onto jab defence and our classic 5 count combos on the pads.

Jun Fan Gung Fu this month, as passed to me by my main instructor, as taught to him directly by Bruce Lee. Yes, these kids are 3rd generation students of Bruce Lee. Our first batch of straight blast punches, some decent footwork, and range gauging drills that landed surprisingly well. Excellent work

A fun session as we worked the principle of multiple opponents. Mostly explored with double stick as a means to automate those striking patterns whilst the mind is otherwise engaged. The guiding principle applied in pad rounds as we “stack n’ whack”. Clearly fun, but these principles are what will keep them safe

Heaven 6 again, and again, and again, and again. Forwards, backwards, sideways, even up and down. Building on this to work some multiple opponent drills. Letting the hands do the work whilst surveying the scene for threats. Also working the principle of obstacles between yourself and potential threats. Vital skills, but fun to work. Mentally taxing, but physically manageable in these conditions. Excellent work.

The post grading calm. Well, even without the syllabus specific pressures, there’s still work to get done. Double stick, coordination and mobility work to set them off. Then focused (focus) pad rounds. Keeping the combos simple to draw attention primarily to the breath. About as important foundation as you can get.

Medium range stick and defensive boxing work with plenty of time spent on both areas. Extra attention given to those grading as is always the way. All ending on the high of pad rounds to finish off.

Our final push before the grading, and both groups looking sharp. Coordination work today mostly via double stick but with plenty of boxing as well.

A fantastic evening of action and high emotion at the CJMA Summer grading. The Lion Cubs covering every single grade, from yellow tag all the way through to black. Some showcasing what their first few months of their journey look like, others what 5 years, over half their life looks like. Cadets, taking it up several notches with some sublime, and actually surprising performances. Silky trapping, coupled with powerful striking. A real journey through the arts we train.
Beyond the obvious display of skills in the martial arts, this is a lesson in; patience, commitment, discipline and deferred gratification. All worthy of celebrating along with those belt upgrades. Congratulations 🙏🏻
