Snail and the Whale - dance workshops!

We had a lovely morning at St Mark's School in Hanwell, London, teaching their two reception classes. Their theme was 'under the sea' and so we created a dance based on a book they had been reading called The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson (a well loved classic).

We started with some creative movement games based on the props we had bought in. The children loved moving in different ways depending on which sea creature they had.

Next we taught our Snail and the Whale dance, following the themes and story that is told in the book.

We used a great song, sang by Julia Donaldson narrating the book which went perfectly with the dance routine.

A great time was had by the children and one teacher said she wanted them to perform it in an assembly coming up - so that would be a lovely addition for the parents to enjoy watching too!

Year 6 leavers idea!

In either a half or full day, we will teach the class a dance routine to a song of your choice. We'll then film it (with the help of the students) and edit it ourselves the week after.

We'll give you the final video to cherish forever and share with your students and the school.

Our 'animals' themed dance workshops were WILD at Meadow Primary School in Epsom.

The school wanted us to cover a range of animals - birds, mammals, amphibians, fish and insects. It was quite a lot to cover in one dance, but we got there! The workshops were for three year 1 classes, and they loved it.

We were inspired by some incredible animal masks shown at the Royal Opera House, used in the ballet Alcina. See the pics.

Our dance teacher had to get involved and dress up for the workshops as a leapord (of course).

The animals we included in our dance were:
Parrot, Gorilla, Dolphin, Frog and a Caterpillar into a butterfly for the finale!

A day of Chinese dance in Tooting, London, to celebrate Chinese New Year!

We showed loads of props, talked about the Zodiac story and taught a traditional Chinese fan dance.

We had a historical morning at Meadow School in Surrey for their year 5 classes.

They are learning all about the Medieval times and wanted a dance workshop to add another layer to their learning!

- We talked about the different styles and characteristics of Medieval dances (there are many).
- Showed pictures of the restrictive clothing they wore and how it effected their dancing.
- Talked about dances' place in society back then, and who would have danced in the castles.
- We listened and talked about which kind of instruments were used for the music.

Then we all did some fantastic dancing in groups - we taught the Pavane and Galliard historical dances, and felt very regal!
