CONFIRMED Cody Gakpo: Liverpool complete signing of Netherlands international from PSV in deal which could rise to £45million
PSV Eindhoven announced on Boxing Day they had agreed a deal with the Premier League club for the transfer of Gakpo and Liverpool confirmed the move had been finalised on Wednesday.
Liverpool are understood to have forked out an initial £37million on the 23-year-old, with the deal potentially rising to £45million.
He will officially join the club when the transfer window reopens on January 1 with his contract to run until the summer of 2028.
Gakpo, who will wear the No18 for Liverpool, can play across the front three and in midfield.
He has been in inspired form during the 2022-23 season having scored 13 goals and claimed 17 assists for PSV.
He also found the back of the net three times at the World Cup in Qatar as he spearheaded Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands side to the quarter-finals.
And Jurgen Klopp has acted fast in bringing the player to Merseyside to provide competition for Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
He could now make his Premier League debut against Brentford on January 2.

Liverpool have made a move to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV
Liverpool are in advanced talks with PSV Eindhoven to sign Cody Gakpo.
The Reds are keen to bolster their attacking options in the January window with Jurgen Klopp set to be without Luis Diaz until March and Diogo Jota until February and Gakpo is the primary target.
Talks between Liverpool and PSV have reached an advanced stage, having significantly stepped up in recent days. The ECHO understands the initial fee will be around the £37m figure with add-ons likely to take the deal well past the £40m mark.
Liverpool accelerated their interest following the injury to Diaz earlier this month. The Colombia winger had been scheduled to return to action following the World Cup but was injured in a training session in Dubai and was forced to fly back to Merseyside to undergo knee surgery as a result.
Diaz is not expected to be fit until March and with Jota also sidelined with a long-term calf issue, the Reds have brought forward their attempts to bring Gakpo to the club in the New Year rather than waiting for the summer like initially planned.
The admiration of other clubs is also understood to have expedited Liverpool's interest, with Manchester United reportedly keen on the Netherlands international, who scored in all three group games at the World Cup.
Speaking after the 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Virgil van Dijk appeared to hint at the arrival of new players in the transfer window, saying: "Hopefully the injured players can come back soon, and hopefully we can welcome some new players at our football club. We will see. I think that quality is always welcome at Liverpool."

Goalkeeper Andre Onana quits Cameroon national team after World Cup dispute.
Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana ended his career with the national team on Friday, one month after the 26-year-old player was sent home from the World Cup in a dispute with coach Rigobert Song.
The Inter Milan player posted a statement on his Twitter account saying "my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end.''
"Players come and go, names are fleeting, but Cameroon comes before any person or player,'' Onana wrote, without citing reasons for his decision. "Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team.''
The last of Onana's 34 international games was the 1-0 loss to Switzerland on Nov. 24 at the World Cup in Qatar.
Onana later released a statement referring to his disagreement with Song over team tactics that led to him being dropped for the next game, a 3-3 draw with Serbia.
"I have put all my efforts and energy into finding solutions to a situation that a footballer often experiences, but there has been no will on the other side,'' Onana said then. "Some moments are difficult to assimilate.''
Song later said he needed all his players to "show discipline and respect.''
Cameroon went on to beat Brazil 1-0 in its final Group G game but did not advance to the round of 16.
