The Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre

We had such a great day yesterday! Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre held a social afternoon giving volunteers, staff, and trustees a chance to relax and socialise together, and celebrate the teamwork that goes into running such a special charity.

Joining us for our afternoon of fun were special guests: Michael Bishop, CEO of RDA UK (); Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton (Rupa Huq MP); our founder, Mary-Joy Langdon; Colin Gurley, representing the Worshipful Company of Loriners (The Worshipful Company of Loriners); and Carl Tamboli representing Trade Web ().

The theme of the afternoon was collaboration in RDA. WSPC is home to 4 RDA groups: Wormwood Scrubs; Hyde Park; Knightsbridge; and Royal Mews! Michael Bishop spoke about RDA, the pony centre, and collaboration. He presented long service certificates to volunteers and to Camargue horses Nounnat, Raboliot, Vectrix, and Seth who have each given over 10 years service to RDA.
We had a demonstration ride by 4 of our RDA riders, showing the variety of skills and exercises they do in their riding lessons. The ride was narrated by one of our volunteer coaches explaining the additional benefits and skills that RDA brings above the fun of riding ponies!

Celebrations were also held for staff members Elaina and Marcus, who have both recently completed their NVQ2 apprenticeships; and we officially welcomed our new yard manager, Lauren (Lauren Dawes).

Topping it all off we had a delicious cream tea with Pimms and Sangria – Yummy!

A super busy day but packed with fun, friendship, and collaboration!

Today we’re celebrating an incredible achievement as she has officially passed her Equine Groom Apprenticeship! 🐴✨

From early mornings and long days to constantly learning, growing and putting the horses first, she has worked tirelessly to reach this milestone. We couldn’t be prouder of everything she has accomplished and the dedication she’s shown every step of the way.

It’s been a pleasure to watch her confidence, knowledge and skills develop, and we know this is only the beginning of what will be a fantastic career in the equine industry.

Please join us in congratulating her on this amazing achievement! 👏💚.

And can we also take a moment to appreciate how smart she looks in her Soho Equestrian base layer and breeches, kindly gifted by Soho Equestrian ™️ 💚 They looked fantastic for such a special milestone, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.

Today was all about Animal Adventures… and it couldn’t have been a better day! 🐴🐰🐹🦎🐢🍦

We loved welcoming so many wonderful families to Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre for a morning of meeting our amazing animals, learning all about how to care for them, grooming our ponies, and making some very special memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made today so much fun. Seeing so many smiling faces, happy children, and animals enjoying all the attention is exactly what it’s all about.

And to top it all off… we finished with a well-earned ice cream! 🍦☀️

Thank you for spending part of your summer with us. We can’t wait to see you all again for more pony-filled adventures!
