MEET OUR COMMITTEE

This week we meet Alessandro, Jennie and Mark - our next three volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure our club runs smoothly!

👋 ALESSANDRO

Alessandro joined Southgate with his wife Enrica in 2019, and it didn’t take long for Southgate to become a family affair! Their son Niccolò is now fully invested too, taking his place between the posts as a goalkeeper. Another wonderful Southgate hockey family!

👋 JENNIE

Jennie joined Southgate in 2018 after moving over from New Zealand. This is her first year on the committee and we’re really excited to have her on board, bringing a fresh perspective, new ideas and plenty to contribute to club life.

👋 MARK

A Southgate member since 2011, Mark has been relentlessly in charge of fixtures since 2014, and right now is probably his busiest time of the year! While the rest of us haven’t even remembered where we stored our gum shields and shin pads, Mark is already deep in emails with clubs and England Hockey, juggling dates and timings and getting GMS up to date so that, come the season, the rest of us can simply open it and know where we’re supposed to be!

WELCOME ARCHIE📣

We are excited to announce that Archie will be joining the club ahead of the 26/27 season! 🏑

WELCOME JAMES! 📣

We are delighted to welcome James to the club this season, as the team start their campaign in the National League! 🐊

💬Lee Ible, M1 Head Coach - ‘James will give us a different dynamic this season. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action and he gives us a real threat at penalty corners.’

Meet your Southgate Men’s teams coaches! 🏑🔴⚫️

Lee moves into the M1s coaching role for his first season, supported by Jason. They tackle their first season in Div 1 South.

Drew is welcomed back to Southgate as Player/Coach as the M2s hope to continue a good run in East Conference.

Andrew continues his time with the M3s but adding coach to his CV this season. Alongside Andrew will be Chris.

Nigel is the men’s club coach, adding a bit more to his coaching plate this season!

Meet your Southgate Women’s teams coaches! 🏑🔴⚫️

Ronan and Harry (Asst coach) take on their second season with the W1s.

Adam starts his second season after the W2s were promoted to national league last season.

Gavin takes the W3s into London Div 1 after promotion last season.

James and Chris are back coaching the W4s as they take on Div 2 again this season.

Nigel is the women’s club coach for his first season on the women’s side!

MEET OUR COMMITTEE

This week, we meet Kim, Jas & Justin — three brilliant volunteers helping keep Southgate moving both on and off the pitch!

👋 KIM

Kim joined Southgate way back in 1988, where she met her husband Richard. Fast forward all these years and their daughters, Charlotte and Victoria, are also a huge part of club life. You can often find all four of them together on the balcony on a Saturday — now that’s a proper Southgate family!

👋 JAS

One of our newer members, Jas has joined the Committee this season. A huge advocate for mixed hockey and club socials, Jas brings plenty of energy and fresh ideas to the volunteer team. We’re excited to see what she gets up to this season!

👋 JUSTIN

Justin joined in 2015 and has played across a number of the Men's teams. He’s a big fan of a summer league game and is also one of those invaluable people who can always be relied upon when the club puts out a last-minute umpiring SOS!

A huge thank you to Kim, Jas & Justin for giving their time and helping make Southgate the club it is.

Well done to our Back 2 Hockey group that participated in a tournament at Old Loughtonians HC. The results might not have gone the way they wanted, but played some great hockey and had a whole lot of fun doing it! 🔴⚫️

📣 We are delighted to announce the return of to Southgate for the coming 26/27 Season. Drew will take on a player-coach role for the as they enter their 2nd season in National League!

Director of Hockey Chris Pearce - “Drew returns to Southgate after one season coaching at Wapping. Drew is a talented coach with years of experience and I’m delighted that within a year of returning to coaching he is coming home to coach the Men’s 2’s in our 2nd season in the East Conference. Drew’s experience and passion for improving players technically will be beneficial to the club as a whole and I look forward to working with him.”

Drew said of his appointment - “Southgate has been a huge part of my life since I joined the club as an eight-year-old. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to come through the junior section, represent the 1st XI in the Premier Division, and coach almost every team across the club.

Southgate isn’t just where I’ve played hockey—it’s been a place where I’ve grown as a player, coach and person. To now be given the opportunity to take on the Men’s 2s Player-Coach role is something I’m incredibly grateful for.

I’m looking forward to working with a great group of players, helping develop the next generation, and contributing in any way I can to a club that has given so much to me over the years. Hopefully, together, we can build on Southgate’s proud traditions and enjoy a successful season.”
