Star batsman Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav hit half-centuries to help India move into the T20 Asia Cup Super Four stage with a 40-run win over Hong Kong here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Kohli made 59 while Suryakumar smashed 68 off 26 balls as the pair put on an unbeaten stand of 98 to steer India to 192-2 after being put in to bat first in the T20 tournament.
Hong Kong were limited to 152-5 in reply as India registered their second successive victory to join Afghanistan in the next round of the six-nation tournament, which acts as a tune-up to the T20 World Cup in October-November.
But it was Suryakumar’s batting blitz that stood out as the number four blasted his way to a 22-ball fifty and finished the innings with four sixes in the final over.
Hong Kong, who made the main draw after winning all three of their matches in the qualifiers in Oman, had largely kept India in check before losing their way once Suryakumar started teeing off.
The 33-year-old Kohli, who is going through an extended batting slump and made 35 in his team’s opening win over Pakistan, also got going to complete his 31st half-century in his 101st T20 International.
Skipper Rohit Sharma started cautiously before clubbing Hong Kong medium-pace bowler Haroon Arshad for two sixes and a four in a 22-run third over.
Spinner Ehsan Khan slowed the scoring and seamer Ayush Shukla reaped the benefits in the next over as he took down Rohit with a slow off-cutter. He made 21.
Kohli walked in to loud cheers from a sparse Indian crowd but struggled to play freely against a disciplined bowling attack which kept the runs down.
Kohli finally opened up to get a boundary with a straight drive off leg-spinner Mohammad Ghazanfar and soon found some rhythm as he hit three sixes in his 44-ball knock.
KL Rahul and Kohli kept the score ticking with singles and twos with occasional boundaries to put on 56 runs before Ghazanfar broke through with the wicket of Rahul (36).
Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh struck early for India with the wicket of Yasim Murtaza but Babar Hayat countered with some attacking shots.
Skipper Nizakat Khan fell to a direct throw from Ravindra Jadeja, who then removed Hayat for 41 with his left-arm spin.
Kinchit Shah (30) and Zeeshan Ali (26 not out) also played useful knocks to reduce the margin of defeat.

Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi on Saturday said his team will be no pushovers in the Asia Cup Twenty20 tournament after a crushing eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the opening match.
Fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi returned figures of 3-11 to help bundle out Sri Lanka for a paltry 105, a total their batsmen overhauled in 10.1 overs in Dubai.
Left-hander Hazratullah Zazai, unbeaten on 37, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanllah Gurbaz, who hit 40 off 18 balls, put on 83 runs for the opening wicket to build on the dominance started by the bowlers.
Afghanistan, in Group B with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, have made a thumping start to their campaign in the six-nation tournament that acts as a tune-up to the T20 World Cup in October-November in Australia.
"There are no upsets against opposition teams. We have properly worked on this tournament," Nabi said after being asked on Afghanistan creating shock wins. "We came early, worked hard and tried to acclimatise."
Afghanistan, who got Test status in 2017 and played their first five-day match against India a year later, have made giant strides in international cricket.
what do you think , are afghanistan the favourites to this tournament.

Four Ways to Generate Cricket Bat Speed for Power Hitting
1.Having a high backlift during stance:
Having a high backlift during batting stance allows for increased angular acceleration to be generated during the impact with the ball. Stance backlift allows for a downswing arc, thereby providing adequate time for your batting arm to generate the required bat speed. You can also use your wrist, along with your arm positions, to give more back lift. Players like Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers use a high backlight to full effect during power-hitting.
2. Playing with a Backswing:
Backswing (commonly used under the umbrella term "backlift") is the backward movement of the bat when the ball is released from the bowler. Backswing may be used as a complement or supplement to a stance backlift. With allowance for some rotary motion from your wrist, the backswing and the subsequent downswing can be performed as a continuous action (creating a loop). When used effectively, backswing can allow for greater downswing acceleration than stance backlift, as the bat is already set in motion. Players like Ben Stokes and Steve Smith use backswing to a good advantage in their shots.
3. Aligning the Body:
The downswing arc can also be increased by moving your body towards the ball. Strengthening your forearms may allow for faster swing of the bat. To increase the arc of the bat, you can also move the front foot and bring your leading shoulder forward, allowing for more control from the top hand to play the shot. Opening up the foot and rotating the body along the direction of the shot also allows for increased circular rotation of the bat. Players like Hardik Pandya and Glen Maxwell use the body arc to enhance the bat speed while deploying the power shots.
4. Optimizing Bat Weight:
While heavier bats allow for more force on the shot, it might slightly decrease the potential speed that can be generated during the downswing. On the contrary, very light bats may not carry enough energy and momentum as a heavier bat, and thus may not help you in lofting the ball beyond the boundary line. Since the length of swing directly correlates to the arm movement, using the right bat weight that does not make a difference in the swinging speed would greatly improve the effectiveness of the shot. Players like David Warner (~1.24 kgs), MS Dhoni (~1.27 kgs), Virender Sehwag (~1.35 kgs), and Chris Gayle (~1.36 kgs) have all played with heavier bats
