✈️ From Doha stopovers to Dubai skies: two flights, two vibes. Here’s how Qatar Airways and Emirates truly compare after my recent journeys. 🌍
During a span of month and a half, I had the chance to fly with both Qatar Airways and Emirates, back to back and honestly, the experience was quite revealing. Two world class airlines, two very different journeys, and the experience caught somewhere in between.
My first trip was with Qatar Airways from London Heathrow to Colombo, with a 3 hour transit in Doha. The ticket cost me £369, which felt like a great deal at first glance. The service was moderate: nothing too special, but smooth enough to get things done. One nice touch I noticed was how well they treated children. They received small gifts with their meals and were served first, which I thought was really thoughtful.
That said, a few things could’ve been better. The toilets weren’t as clean as I expected from a top tier airline, and the meals, while fine, weren’t particularly memorable. We had booked our seats 48 hours before departure, but the seat layout on the app didn’t match the actual aircraft, which was a bit frustrating. We even made a complaint, and one passenger from us was offered an upgrade to extra legroom, but we politely declined. The entertainment system felt old & outdated screens, limited shows and movies, and not much new content. Seat comfort was average too. On the positive side, departure and arrival were perfectly on time, both from London and Doha, so no complaints there.
Then came my Emirates flight a few weeks later from London Gatwick to Colombo via Dubai, with a short 2 hour transit. This one cost £620, almost double what I paid for Qatar, but right from the boarding gate, the difference was noticeable. The comfort level was higher, with better leg space and newer seats. The food was genuinely impressive with tasty meals, a proper dessert, and a good selection of drinks. The cabin crew stood out too: friendly, professional, and always smiling. Their attentiveness gave the whole experience a more premium feel, even in Economy class.
Another thing I appreciated was the toilets stayed spotless throughout the entire journey, which says a lot about how well the crew maintained things behind the scenes. I didn’t see kids getting any special treatment like on Qatar, but the entertainment system was miles ahead with newer screens, better resolution, and a fresh collection of movies and TV shows to choose from. Timing wise, both flights were on schedule, just like Qatar.
After flying both within 45 days, here’s my honest take. Emirates wins when it comes to comfort, cleanliness, and service quality. But it does come at a higher price. Qatar Airways, on the other hand, offers a more economical option with slightly fewer perks but still gets you there on time. It really depends on what matters more to you: saving money or flying in extra comfort.
Both flights were booked about a week before departure, and this is purely based on my personal experience. yours might be completely different!
Would you go for the budget-friendly Qatar or pay a bit more for the comfort of Emirates? I’d love to hear about your own flight experiences and what made them memorable. ✈️🌍
