I tried app blockers.
I deleted social media apps.
I bought a flip phone.
I even did digital detox weekends.
Every solution worked…
Until it didn't.
Three days later, or maybe a week if I was lucky, I found myself slipping back into exactly the same habits.
The problem was, as a creative entrepreneur, I couldn't just disappear from social media.
I needed it for my work.
I needed to share my creations, connect with people, and grow my business.
So I kept telling myself:
"I'll just use it for 10 minutes."
But 10 minutes would turn into an hour.
Then, my average screen time climbed to more than 7 hours a day.
Eventually, I realised I wasn't failing because I lacked discipline or willpower.
I was trying to solve the wrong problem.
After training with some of the world's leading hypnotherapists, I began to understand something fascinating about how habits are created.
Many of the apps we use every day are designed to keep us scrolling through endless feeds, notifications and unpredictable rewards.
The more we repeat those behaviours, the more automatic they become.
That's why you can genuinely intend to check one message…
…yet find yourself scrolling twenty minutes later without remembering how you got there.
When you reach for your phone, your conscious mind tells itself you're just checking the time, replying to a text, or looking something up.
But underneath that conscious thought, your unconscious mind is often running an unconscious habit loop.
Bored? → Reach for the phone.
Stressed? → Reach for the phone.
Lonely? → Reach for the phone.
Uncomfortable emotion? → Reach for the phone.
After thousands of repetitions, your hand moves before you've even made a conscious decision.
That's why willpower can only interrupt a habit for a few days.
But lasting change happens when I stopped fighting the habit with willpower and started working with the unconscious patterns driving it.
Once I started changing the habit there, everything changed.
I stopped reaching for my phone without thinking.
I became present again.
I could focus for longer.
I picked up books instead of my phone.
Using my phone became a choice instead of an automatic reflex.
So, I turned everything that helped me into a simple 7-Day Mindful Phone Use Challenge.
🎧 Just 20-30 minutes a day of hypnotic meditations for 7 days to help you build a calmer, more intentional relationship with your phone.
