Congratulations to Joseph Babatunde Osakue – ELR Club Runner of the Month for August 2026.
Joseph is a veritable lightning bolt across any distance, from 100m to marathon.
Joseph, who joined the club in 2021, ran a 100m PB of 13.98 at the Woodford AC Open Graded Meeting at the end of July, but also regularly runs 5km, 10km, half marathons and marathons. He was a regular scorer for the club at the summer Elvis race this season, often finishing first V50.
He also ran 38.50 at the Saucony London 10km in July, 3.12.51 at the Virtual London Marathon in April and rumour has it he is training for the Kosice Peace Marathon in Slovakia in October. He is a keen parkrunner and frequently scores incredible age grades of 80% or more at parkruns.

Well done again, Joseph, for being a great asset to the club across any distance!

Pink was the colour we picked to remember our Caroline. All who knew her knew she loved parkrun so this Saturday we dedicated our runs to her memory.

Congratulations to Club Runner of the Month for July and club legend, Grant Conway.

Club coach Grant is one of ELR’s longest serving members and a life member. As well as participating in almost every club race, Grant does a huge amount to support and encourage other members.

He’s competed in five of the seven Elvis races this summer, making 99 Elvis races in total. He plans to celebrate his 100th Elvis race at Barking at the end of August.

For years, he coached every track session, and continues to plan the track programme and lead frequent sessions.

Grant particularly loves being part of a team. He joined teammates Richard Power-Guest and Peter Hatley to take part in the Sri Chinmoy Battersea Relays 3 x 1 mile this month a few days after the Essex 5 mile championship in Colchester. He was part of the winning ultra team in the Sikhs in the City Summer Samosas Relay in June. He has also taken part in all three of the Orion Forest Five series races this summer.

Grant rarely misses a cross country race in the winter and is always keen on the Essex Way Relay every September.

As a coach, Grant has helped countless club members create training plans to reach their goals and improve their technique. He also leads a team running an elite drinks station at the London Marathon every year.

After 18 years of giving his heart and soul to the club, it’s impossible to imagine ELR without Grant.
