How you spend your holiday is personal – and controversial. For some, holidays are a chance to remain horizontal on a beach, only moving to turn the page of their book or order a cocktail from the bar.

I personally love all the above! 🍸 🍾 but exercising on holiday, whether is taking walks, doing flow-fusion or setting myself up for a short & fast heavy weights session makes me feel so good!

When I do it, however, some of my friends (and neighbours 😂) look at me with raised eyebrows. They mutter something like, “you’re on holiday, take a day off!” or “aren’t you here to rest?”.

I get why people may think that a holiday should be reserved for doing nothing. But unless I’ve been on a plane and really need to stretch, my body will crave some rest for the first few days. It won’t take long for me to want to bounce around again, encouraging family and friends to run, walk, swim or do a circuit in the sun or in the rain!

Believe me or not, I don’t have much time to train myself! As a mum, after many school runs, football and taking care of my clients, training on holidays is a treat!

I say, do what makes you happy!
You don’t need hours and hours…it’s a time for everything 🙌🏼

While on holidays…

Whatever you do, don’t stop exercising now with the intention of picking it back up at a later time! Maintaining the momentum of your regular exercise routine is much easier than trying to re-establish it all over again.

In addition, ‘de-training’ occurs quite rapidly and it is always better to shift to maintenance workouts than to stop altogether and lose some of the benefits that you've worked so hard to gain.
You don’t need hours and hours…!

Healthy spine & Flexibility

Why to practice back bends?
What are the best exercises for me?

*The exercise selection and progression is very personal. The routines should always be individual and suitable for what your back can do and need ( yoga, strength training, gymnastics … all promote back bends but in order to perform some some of those movements, we require learning, practice progression and series …)

*Back bends lengthen the front of our body, releasing tension and making the spine more flexible.

*Back bends are especially good if without noticing, you tend to sit for hours hunched over a desk, they reverse this posture to keep the spine healthy and make you more aware about your daily posture.

*Back bending also stretches out & tone the abdomen (at the same time!) and builds strength, bravery and trust in oneself by achieving poses you thought you couldn’t do.

*Back bends open your chest, allowing more oxygen, better breathing and subsequently, lowering stress and anxiety. (Our breath and state of mind are connected and some poses will help to regulate your breath when you feel fearful vs. when you feel relaxed)

*On an energetic level, back bends open your heart and mind to new possibilities! After all, some back bends require you to literally turn your world upside down. Inviting you to look at things from a whole new perspective!
