Nadogo FC started their FMF Inter-District Championship campaign on a high after defeating defending Senior Division champions Cooling Down California Rakiraki FC 2-1 at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.

Nadogo FC put in a determined performance against the defending champions to secure maximum points from the encounter.

Rakiraki FC battled hard in search of a way back into the contest, but Nadogo FC held firm to seal an important victory in the Senior Division.

Seaqaqa FC off to winning start at FMF IDC

Seaqaqa FC made a winning start to their FMF Inter-District Championship campaign after defeating the Kiribati National Team 4-2 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today.

The northerners produced a strong performance to secure all three points in their opening Group A match of the Premier Division.

Kiribati National Team, making their historic first appearance at the FMF IDC, showed plenty of determination throughout the encounter, but Seaqaqa FC did enough to claim maximum points.

The win gives Seaqaqa FC an important early boost in their push for a place in the Premier Division semi-finals.

International Men's Friendly

History was made on home soil as the Cook Islands National Men's Team secured a memorable 3-2 victory over Tahiti in the second of their international friendly matches, ending the series level at one win apiece and delivering a result that will be remembered for years to come.

The match carried extra significance, marking the Cook Islands' first senior men's international fixture
on home soil in 28 years. In front of a passionate home crowd, the national side rose to the occasion with a determined and spirited performance against a strong Tahitian outfit.

After falling 3-1 in the opening match of the series, the Cook Islands responded in impressive fashion, showing resilience, character, and growing confidence under head coach Rhys Ruka. The hosts battled hard from start to finish, matching Tahiti's intensity and taking their chances when it mattered most.

Benjamin Mata was the star of the night, netting twice for the Cook Islands to give his side a crucial edge.

FIJI WOMENS PLAY FOR PRIDE AS FINAL RACE HEATS UP

The Fiji Kulas will be playing for pride when they face New Caledonia in their final MSG Prime Minister's Cup 2026 match at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva next Tuesday.

Fiji are out of contention for a place in the final after three consecutive defeats and will be looking for their first points and first goal of the competition.

The Kulas started with a 4-0 defeat to Papua New Guinea before going down 1-0 to Vanuatu. They produced a stronger showing against Solomon Islands but were again denied, with Lorina Solosaia's 75th-minute strike deciding the match 1-0.

While Fiji's hopes are over, the battle for the top two places and a spot in the October 3 final remains very much alive.

Vanuatu have completed three matches and sit strongly placed after their 5-0 victory over New Caledonia. Their remaining match against Papua New Guinea on Saturday will have a major bearing on the final race.

Papua New Guinea have made a perfect start with two wins from two matches. They face Vanuatu on Saturday before completing their pool campaign against Solomon Islands next Tuesday.

Solomon Islands remain in the hunt following their victory over Fiji. They first face New Caledonia on Saturday before a potentially important final pool match against Papua New Guinea.

For New Caledonia, the task is much more difficult after defeats to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. They still have matches against Solomon Islands and Fiji remaining.

Fiji and New Caledonia meet at 7pm next Tuesday, after Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands clash at 4pm.

With the top two teams qualifying for the final, the next two match days will determine who remains in the race for the MSG Prime Minister's Cup crown.

Seaqaqa Make History with First-Ever Premier League Promotion

Seaqaqa FC have created history by earning promotion to Fiji's top-flight football competition for the first time.

The Macuata-based side defeated Tavua FC 7-6 in a dramatic penalty shootout during the Extra Senior League promotion play-off at Govind Park in Ba on September 13, 2026.

Tavua FC appeared to be in control after goals from Marika Rawasoi and Ratu Dau gave them a 2-0 advantage.

However, Seaqaqa produced a determined second-half comeback through captain Lisala Bonatoba and Mohammed Ishrat, levelling the match at 2-2 and forcing the contest into penalties.

Seaqaqa FC held their nerve in the shootout to complete a historic victory and secure their place in the Premier League for the 2027 season.

The result ended decades of disappointment for a team that had previously competed in several promotion play-offs, Senior Division IDC finals and semifinals without managing to reach Fijl's top division.

Coach Mohammed Imran praised his players for their determination and dedicated the achievement to the entire Seaqaqa community.

"We have been trying since 1990, and we have finally done it," Imran said. "These boys have worked very hard, and this success did not come easily."

Established in 1981, Seaqaqa have spent more than four decades working towards a place among Fijl's leading football teams. Their promotion represents a landmark moment not only for the club but also for their loyal supporters and the wider community.

The victory was particularly special for captain Bonatoba, whose goal helped inspire the comeback before he led the team through the pressure of the penalty shootout.

Seaqaqa FC will now prepare for their first Premier League campaign, where they will face Fiji's strongest and most established football districts.

For the players, officials and supporters who have followed the team through years of near misses, the final whistle at Govind Park marked the fulfilment of a long-held dream.

Seagaqa FC wait is finally over. In 2027, they will compete in Fiji's Premier League for the first time.

The 2026 FMF Inter-District Championship is set to create history with the Kiribati national team joining the competition for the first time.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer
Mohammed Yusuf confirmed the historic inclusion during the official pool draws, saying Kiribati would compete in the Premier Division.

"This year is going to be a historical occasion as we are inviting our neighbouring country for the first time ever in the competition history to be part of IDC,"
Yusuf said.

"We have invited the Kiribati national team to come and play in the Premier level."

Another new feature will see the Fiji under-17 national team compete in the same division as part of its preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

Yusuf said exposing the youngsters to senior competition would form an important part of their preparations.

"We are also including the Fijian under-17 team that is in camp training to go to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup," he said.

"It is giving exposure to the young players, where they will be exposed to a lot of people and a high level of competition."

The tournament will be contested across three divisions — Super Premier, Premier and Senior.

Yusuf said Fiji FA was pleased with its continuing partnership with FMF Group of Companies, which is in the third year of a five-year sponsorship agreement.

He said last year's IDC at Govind Park in Ba attracted about 45,000 spectators over five days, including 14,300 on the final day.

He expects another strong tournament this year with the country's leading districts battling for honours.

"We expect this year, with so much rivalry among the Fiji FA top districts, that we want to showcase one of the best FMF IDC competitions," Yusuf said.

He also acknowledged FMF for its contribution to football and other community initiatives.

"FMF not only sponsors in putting the money in football. They do various other events where they involve the community and create opportunities for the youths."

Yusuf urged supporters to purchase their tickets early through the tournament's online ticketing platform to avoid a last-minute rush.

He added that matches would also be available through a pay-per-view broadcast service for supporters unable to attend the tournament.

The FMF IDC will be played from October 6-11 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
