Vanuatu produced a spirited second-half comeback to earn a draw against Fiji in an entertaining contest in this second part of international friendly.

Fiji opened the scoring when a dangerous attack involving Roy Krishna and Ibrahim Afazal caused confusion in the Vanuatu penalty area, with the ball ultimately deflecting off a Vanuatu defender and into the net for an own goal.

Vanuatu responded well through Azaria Soroman, who found the equaliser to bring the home crowd to life.

However, Fiji regained the lead before the interval when Roy Krishna struck to make it 2-1.

After the break, Vanuatu continued to push forward and were rewarded when Alex Saniel scored the equaliser, ensuring the points were shared.

Cook Islands Women Claim Two-Match Series Victory Over Afghanistan Women's United

The Cook Islands National Women's Team recorded a memorable 1-0 victory over Afghanistan United last Thursday in Auckland, New Zealand, in the opening fixtures of their two match series.

Midfielder Teupoko Tuariki scored the decisive goal midway through the first half, rising above the defence to head home what proved to be the match winner. The Cook Islands created several other
promising opportunities throughout the contest but were unable to add to their tally.

Afghan Women United mounted sustained pressure during the final 25 minutes of the match, throwing everything forward in search of an equaliser.
However, the Cook Islands defence remained resolute, producing a disciplined and determined performance to secure a well-earned victory.

Head Coach Rhys Ruka praised the progress shown by his squad and highlighted the growth in both performance and mentality within the group.

"There has been a clear shift in mentality from the players from when I first took over last year and it has shown from day one this week," said Ruka.

"Local players especially have come into camp fitter than what they were at the last tournament, which is a credit to the local staff managing the players based in Rarotonga."

Reflecting on the match, Ruka acknowledged the team's steady improvement throughout the contest.

"The first 25 minutes of the Afghan United game were a bit cagey, but after that we relaxed a bit more with the ball and played some decent football. For only one training session together, we were pretty organised and the girls who came off the bench did well to help us get over the line."

The two sides met again today in their second match, with the Cook Islands making another strong statement. The Cook Islands secured a commanding 3-0 lead, continuing their impressive form against Afghanistan Women's United.

The team would also like to acknowledge and thank the Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA), team management, coaching staff, and all those who have supported the programme. Opportunities such as these international fixtures are invaluable for the continued development of women's football in the Cook Islands, providing players with important exposure and experience on the international stage.
