Made a Muhammad Ali reference in class today — “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
Blank looks. None of them knew who he was.
Made me realise there’s a whole generation coming up that won’t know Ali, Bruce Lee, or Royce Gracie. Absolute pioneers of combat sports… and now apparently ancient history.

“You’re already a black belt. Why do you still train?”
Because mastery isn’t a destination — it’s a discipline.

They’ll never understand —
ego stays outside,
learning comes first.

They’ll never understand why I step on the mat as a beginner,
why I learn from instructors younger and less experienced than me,
why I learn from anyone who has something to teach.

I once thought black belt meant I know it all.
Then I earned it… and realized how little I knew.

Always a student first. Instructor second.
You climb to the top of one mountain —
and suddenly ten more come into view.

Even the sharpest blade needs sharpening.
That’s the path.
That’s how you grow.
That’s mastery in motion.
The journey never ends. 🥋🔥

Never show weakness. Don’t let anyone take advantage. Stay calm, focused, and confident. Even when losing, carry yourself with a winner’s aura.

In Kids Karate class today, we were playing a game. The kids were loud and full of energy — total chaos. But when it came time to stretching, everything suddenly became calm.

One kid whispered, “It’s so quiet now.”

That’s life — moments of chaos and moments of peace.

I don’t have a diploma or formal training in working with SEN students — but I love teaching people of all abilities.

Today, one of my autistic students was having a tough moment and began acting out in class. I calmly asked him to sit down, but he refused. When I gently tried to guide him to his seat, he became overwhelmed, started crying, and said he hated me. (Ouch 😃— but I get it.)

I gave him five minutes of space — not as a punishment, but as a moment to reset. When I invited him back, he rejoined the group calm, focused, and ready to learn.

It was a powerful reminder: sometimes our students aren’t being ‘naughty’ — they’re expressing distress the only way they know how. What looks like defiance can actually be a cry for help.

Compassion, patience, and calm boundaries go a long way. Every child deserves someone who understands that behaviour is communication.

After every fight, win or lose, go back to the gym.
Go back to the silence.
To the mirror.
To the truth.

Some victories can make you arrogant.
Many defeats can make you bitter.

But both are just moments.
Neither defines you.

What defines you is what you do next.

You celebrate with discipline and humility.
You mourn with awareness.

And then you 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠.
You study the footage.
You face what needs fixing.
You sharpen what worked.
You get better.

𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬
𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜.

No win makes you invincible.
No loss makes you broken.

True martial artists always return,
to the place where egos are stripped,
and growth begins again.
