UK weather maps reveal exact date Arctic blast to plunge temperatures to -1C

Britain could face a sharp drop in temperatures later this month, with new weather

maps suggesting parts of the country could see temperatures plunge to -1C. The

latest maps from WXCharts suggest colder conditions could grip parts of the UK

on Thursday, October 22. The maps, valid for 6am, show temperatures falling to

around -1C in parts of the Scottish Highlands, especially across northern Scotland,

where the coldest conditions are expected. Elsewhere, temperatures could dip to

around 1C to 3C across central and southern Scotland, while northern England

could see lows of between 2C and 4C.

Ridgeback recalls hybrid bikes fitted with Vee Zilent tyres and sold since 2020

Possible tyre defect may make affected bikes unsafe to ride

UK bicycle brand Ridgeback has issued a safety recall for a number of its hybrid

bikes sold since 2020. The recall affects the Comet, Motion and Speed bikes with

sloping geometry or a step-through frame and with the product code prefix RB21.

There’s a detailed list of affected bike models, along with their product codes,

accessible via a link on Ridgeback’s site.

Ridgeback has identified a possible problem with the Vee Zilent tyres fitted to

some bikes, due to a manufacturing defect in the tread pattern. It says this could

cause the tyre to fail, with the risk of a crash.

UK weather: Polar air to hit Britain from Tuesday 6th October as temperatures

plunge next week

The UK is heading towards a dramatic weather reversal after several days of

unusually warm conditions. Sunshine and above-average temperatures will

dominate for now, but the latest forecast hints at a much colder and more

unsettled pattern waiting just around the corner.

Friday will remain warmer than average for much of the UK, despite a marked

north-west/south-east split. While Scotland and Northern Ireland see rain and

strong winds, southern areas can expect some pleasant sunshine.

Temperatures will continue to sit several degrees above the average for this time of

year in parts of the south. Typical early-October daytime highs are around 14-17°C

in Scotland and 16-18°C across much of England and Wales, depending on location.

A circular ride covering 42km/26 miles to Little Britain Lake near Iver at a leisurely

pace averaging 13km/hr (8mph). Morning coffee stop after 15km/10 miles in

Hillingdon. Aiming for a 12:45pm picnic lunch (bring your own food and drinks) at

the lake after a total of 24km/15 miles. ‎
