VetLife or FitLife
The Unfit Veterinary Dilemma: Health OR work...
After talking with hundreds of vet professionals
i have found the top three things that hold them back from reaching their health goals and how to solve them
Lack of time
Lack of Energy
Lack of direction
Lack of Time
Create time by prepping VERY SIMPLE grab-and-go meals and lower your expectations around what a workout needs to be.
And hour spent meal prepping frees up HOURS each week and a fifteen-minute-at-home workout each day can still provide tremendous benefits
Lack of Energy
Prioritise activities that give you a return on your energy investment.
A quick workout or a 15-min walk invigorates you mentally and physically for hours.
Nutrient-rich foods supply you with sustained energy and alertness throughout the day
Lack of direction
Youre a person with diverse interests and goals so your health plan should reflect that.
Create a combination ot strength and cardiovascular exercises.
Your diet should involve a foundation of healthy foods with some occasional “sanity” meals to help you stay consistent
I can show you how to prioritise your time
and how nutrition will FUEL you rather than STARVE you
And most importantly,
I am here to to give you DIRECTION

is vetlife making you its b*tch?!
You are all busy professionals, I get it.
You have limited time. I get it.
And most importantly, you feel EXHAUSTED at the end of the work day and don't really feel like spending 2 hours doing cardio in the gym.
I get it!
but if you don’t make time for health now
you need to make time for disease later
but...
this is where it gets good!!
You do not need to spend hours in a gym every day, running on the treadmill until it feels like your heart will fall out of your chest.
In only 60 minutes a week, you can achieve the results that you want, by focusing on the right workouts and intensity.
These 60 minutes are also divided into two 30 minute workouts to make them easy to fit into your day.
By making your workouts an easy addition
to your schedule, this easily becomes a healthy new habit
Small Workouts
Don’t get me wrong, they still need to be EFFICIENT!!
By focusing on small (but effective) workouts, we are basically using targeted exercises to hit your goals, in a short period of time.
Example workout
Day 1 - circuit training
Squats
Walkout to press
Lateral lunges
Tricep dip on chair / stairs
Plank
Day 6 - circuit training
Front / lateral raises
Reverse Lunges
Plank shoulder taps
Pulse squat
Commandoes
Bonus workout
5 minute abs !! For the hardcore only !!
Boat hold
Plank
In's and out's
Leg raises
Deadbugs (alternating if possible)

Exercise is crucial for mental well-being as it surpasses medications in reducing anxiety and depression by 1.5 times.
Physical activity stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural mood elevators, while also reducing stress hormones.
It promotes better sleep, enhances self-esteem, and fosters a sense of accomplishment.
Moreover, regular exercise improves brain function, aiding in clearer thinking and sharper memory.
It provides a constructive outlet for pent-up energy and emotions, fostering a healthier emotional state.
The social aspect of group activities can also combat feelings of isolation.
Overall, exercise offers holistic benefits for mental health, making it a powerful tool in managing anxiety and depression.
I'm not saying that medication doesn't have its place, but exercise should definitely be viewed as first-choice treatment and easily used as an adjunctive to medication

how to lose fat and still eat the lunch and learn pizza
Current diet culture has us believing that we need to STARVE or DEPRIVE ourselves of certain foods
I’m here to say:
Eat your carbs, enjoy a glass of wine and have a pizza night with your friends!!
(not quite what you expected to head when reading about weight loss "diet" right?)
It just isn’t a long term and sustainable option to give up certain foods or stop eating alltogether!!
But HOW is this possible for sustainable weight loss?
introducing the 80/20 method that i teach all my clients and swear by myself!
The 80/20 principle is based on a system where 80% of your intake is devoted to standard typical 'clean' foods so that you'll get enough protein and micros/fibre in easy-peasy.
Then 20% of your intake is devoted to "whatever you want" type foods based on your taste and preference.
The 80/20 principle can be divided into daily or weekly sections. You can have a daily "treat" or a night out with your friends.
The point is that you divide your day (or week) into 80/20 and STICK TO THE PLAN.
Eating 80/20 on a weekly basis
You stick to your calorie goals for five days in a row (let’s say weekdays, just to simplify).
You don’t have to be overly strict—that might leave you tempted to swing too far the other way when the weekend arrives—but you should be trying to make healthy choices as close to 100 percent of the time as possible from Monday through Friday.
When the weekend comes, you relax your calorie goals.
Eating 80/20 on a daily basis
You fill the majority of your meals and snacks with healthy, nutrient dense foods.
When it comes time for your 20 percent indulgence, you reach for a snack bag
of chips in the afternoon, a glass of wine with dinner, or a few squares of dark chocolate for dessert.

Choosing to embark on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle is invigorating, but sustaining it demands true resolve.
Initially, the rush of motivation fuels workouts and mindful eating.
Yet, as novelty wanes, dedication falters.
The true test lies in the persistent pursuit of wellness when enthusiasm wavers.
It's in those moments of fatigue and temptation that character is forged.
Consistency transforms sporadic efforts into lasting habits, shaping a sustainable path to weight loss and vitality.
It's not about the initial choice, but the unwavering commitment to one's wellbeing, even when the initial spark dims.
This resilience distinguishes those who achieve lasting transformation from those who merely flirt with change.

Priorotising health in a hectic schedule as a busy veterinary professional
no time for health is just an excuse

Prioritising your wellbeing will fuel your career and therefore fuel your ability to care for you furry friends
Quick workouts and nutritious meals, they are INVESTMENTS, not time wasters.
Health isn’t a luxury, it’s a NECESSITY!
Take time to make it s non-negotiable
Short, intense workouts deliver big results. High-intensity intervals maximize calorie burn and boost metabolism. Efficiency is key; 30 minutes of focused exercise can surpass hours of aimless gym time.
Quality over quantity prevails in achieving fitness goals. Get in, work hard, and see impressive gains!
Mindful eating cultivates a profound connection to food. It encourages awareness of hunger cues and appreciating each bite. This practice aids digestion, prevents overeating, and fosters a healthy relationship with food.
By savoring meals, one attains sustainable weight loss and a nourished, balanced life
Relaxation is a cornerstone of holistic well-being. It reduces stress, aiding in weight loss by curbing emotional eating. It fosters a positive mindset, enhancing motivation for healthy choices. Moreover, relaxation promotes mental health, vital for sustained fitness progress and overall happiness.

Labeling foods as "good" or "bad" can create harmful emotions relating to food promoting guilt or restriction.
Focusing on nutritional value encourages balanced choices, fostering a positive relationship with food.
It emphasises nourishment, helping individuals make informed decisions without judgment or negativity, promoting long-term well-being and sustainable habits.
25/10/2023
The demanding schedule of a veterinary professional often leads to compromised nutrition
Long shifts, small breaks (if you’re lucky enough to get one!) and a staff room stuffed to the brims with chocolates and bisquits from grateful owners
Busy days result in quick, less nutritious meals, contributing to weight gain and diminished energy levels
This cycle of inadequate nourishment impacts overall well-being, underscoring the need for mindful eating habits amidst your hectic profession
Planning is key
For a busy veterinary professional, meal planning and prepping are invaluable.
They ensure nutritious, balanced meals amidst a hectic schedule.
It's the GOLD STANDARD for staying on track.
Snacks are okay
Snacks can be allies for weight loss in your journey
(guess you didn’t see that advice coming??)
When integrated thoughtfully into the daily nutrition plan, they provide sustained energy and curb cravings
So you DON’T have to avoid the snack-filled staffroom, just be mindful about what you're eating
Quick nutrition
Have you got a Nutribullet (or similar)?
If not, consider getting one! The amount of nutrients you can shove in there is AMAZING when you’re always on your feet running from kennel to consult to theatre. It's a practical tool for maintaining optimal nutrition in your fast-paced profession
protein
I know, i keep going on about this! But that’s because its SO IMPORTANT!
Protein is crucial in weight loss, especially for those with demanding jobs.
And don’t worry, I know you’re not all cats, so it doesn’t have to be animal protein, there are many other sources
different diet regimes
In our job, we sometimes accidentally end up doing the whole “intermittent fasting” regime, without actually meaning to..
Intermittent fasting suits hectic jobs.
And if it’s not for you, not to worry!
