Aria Rashid has been appointed President of Rojava FA, becoming the first female member association president in CONIFA’s history. 👏🦅

Rojava FA is one of the newest members of CONIFA Asia, and this appointment marks a meaningful step forward for gender equality in football governance — in line with UN SDG 5.

A year of milestones for CONIFA Asia & Oceania.

In July 2025, the second CONIFA Men’s Asia Cup in London marked a historic first — bringing the Confederation of Independent Football Associations and a FIFA member association into collaboration for the first time.

Three new member associations joined our confederation this year: the Syrian Kurds, the Palestinian Refugees, and Khalistan — communities representing tens of millions of people finding their place in the global sport ecosystem for the first time.

We are working to welcome the Kurdistan Region back into CONIFA — nine million people, the largest stateless nation in the world, and a proud footballing culture that deserves representation.

At the CONIFA Asia Cup London, the flag of East Turkistan was raised on an international sports platform for the first time in history. Eight months later, a Uyghur footballer who competed in London signed with a club in the Singapore Premier League — the first professional transfer for East Turkistan and for CONIFA. Forty million people, represented on a pitch, and now on a contract.

This year also brought formal recognition of something that had been developing within CONIFA Asia for some time: the voice we are giving to refugees, who remain largely invisible in the normative sport world. At the CONIFA AGM in Northern Cyprus in April 2026, CONIFA established a new membership category for refugee football associations.

The work continues. For the people. For the game.
