23 years of wearing a 1 cm shoe raise, three visits to ProFeet in Fulham, and today I experienced something I never thought possible — my balance felt almost PERFECT! 😲🙌
Today, Thursday 8th October 2026, I returned to ProFeet in Fulham for my THIRD appointment in just over a month.
And what a difference this visit made!
After weeks of frustration, disappointment and struggling with my balance, I finally walked away feeling incredibly happy, relieved and excited about the future.
Here’s why this means so much to me.
👣 MY STORY BEGAN IN 2003 — 23 YEARS AGO
In 2003, a podiatrist discovered that my left leg was approximately 1 cm shorter than my right.
Since then, I have always worn a separate, custom-made 1 cm (10 mm) raising insert inside my left shoe, together with custom-made orthotic insoles.
The raising insert sits underneath my left insole to compensate for the difference in leg length.
This arrangement worked extremely well for me for more than 20 years. I was comfortable and had no significant problems with it.
However, things changed recently when I needed new custom-made insoles.
😔 TWO DISAPPOINTING VISITS — AND EXHAUSTING BALANCE PROBLEMS
During my first two appointments at ProFeet, I requested new custom-made insoles that included the additional 1 cm raise in the left insole itself.
Unfortunately, this arrangement simply didn’t work for me.
I wasn’t satisfied with either outcome.
Walking became increasingly tiring because I had to concentrate so much on controlling my balance.
Something didn’t feel right.
And for someone living with Usher Syndrome Type 1, balance is already a lifelong challenge.
