If feeding feels like this (painful, frustrating, relentless), you have probably been told it’s your technique. Or engorgement that will settle. Or an infection that needs antibiotics. Maybe tongue tie has been mentioned, then dismissed, then mentioned again.

And yet here you are, still in pain.
When mastitis, blocked ducts, or oversupply keep coming back, it’s worth asking a different question: why isn’t the breast draining properly in the first place?

Sometimes the answer lies in the latch. And sometimes the latch is the way it is because of how your baby is holding tension in their body.

Strain through the occiput, compression in the temporal bones, and restricted jaw mobility are common findings in babies who struggle to feed symmetrically or effectively. The result for mum can be repeated blocked ducts, engorgement, and mastitis that just won’t resolve.

A paediatric osteopath assesses the whole feeding relationship, including the tension patterns, jaw mechanics, and cranial compressions in your baby that might be making feeding harder than it needs to be.

Because improving the latch often starts with understanding what’s happening in your baby’s body.

📍 At Wellthy Clinic, Matthew works with newborns and infants from the earliest weeks, supporting feeding, weight gain and settling from the ground up.

We are thrilled to welcome Cecilia to our team! 🎉

Cecilia began practising classical ballet from a young age and experienced injuries from her teenage years due to the physical demands of ballet training. This inspired her to explore rehabilitation-based movement practices, including Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Yoga. Through her own healing journey, she developed a deep passion for helping others improve their physical health, movement, and overall well-being.

Trained in New York and Hong Kong, Cecilia brings 20 years of experience teaching Pilates and Gyrotonic across both mat and apparatus. Her teaching approach focuses on rehabilitation, posture alignment, core stability, strength, flexibility, breathwork, and mindful movement, supporting clients of all levels from injury recovery to overall wellness and performance enhancement.

Dedicated to continuous learning, Cecilia has expanded her expertise through advanced studies in CranioSacral Therapy, Kundalini Yoga, Barre, Vipassana Meditation, and Sound Healing, as well as training with internationally respected teachers. She believes that developing body awareness and balanced movement is essential for long-term physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Cecilia is available to teach 1:1 and 2:1 sessions at Wellthy Clinic on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8am-2pm.

Hydration is one of the most overlooked factors in musculoskeletal health, and its effects run deeper than most people realise.

Your joints depend on synovial fluid, a water-based substance, to stay lubricated and move smoothly. Dehydration can reduce the volume and viscosity of this fluid, potentially contributing to stiffness and increased wear over time.

Your muscles are around 70–75% water. Even mild dehydration has been shown to impair performance, slow recovery, and increase susceptibility to cramping, though the exact mechanisms are still being researched.

Fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs, also has a high water content, and some researchers suggest that hydration influences its elasticity and glide. The science here is still emerging, but it’s a plausible factor in that familiar feeling of tightness and restriction.

The effects extend further:

- Nutrient delivery to muscles and joints depends on adequate fluid volume
- Inflammatory by-products are cleared more efficiently when you’re well hydrated
- Spinal discs have a gel-like core that is largely water-dependent; disc height and shock absorption genuinely rely on hydration

If you are managing persistent pain, stiffness, or recurring injuries, hydration is worth taking seriously alongside exercise, treatment, and sleep. It won’t fix everything, but it’s a simple, low-cost variable that’s easy to neglect.

Aim to drink consistently throughout the day rather than waiting until you are thirsty, as thirst is already a sign you are behind.

Autoimmune conditions affecting the joints are widely associated with inflammation, but inflammation doesn’t just cause pain. Over time, it can also compromise the quality and resilience of connective tissue itself.

In conditions such as:

- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Lupus (SLE)
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis (where enthesitis and structural remodelling play a distinct role)
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (where hypothyroidism can secondarily impair connective tissue quality and contribute to joint and muscle pain)

Chronic inflammatory activity can affect:
- Collagen integrity and turnover
- Ligament and tendon function
- Overall joint stability

This creates a secondary cycle worth addressing:
instability → mechanical stress → persistent pain → further inflammatory load

Clinical implication:
Managing inflammation is essential, but it may not fully resolve symptoms if structural and mechanical factors are left unaddressed.

A more comprehensive approach may also include:
🌀 Supporting joint mechanics and stability
🤸‍♀️ Progressive strength and loading programmes
🥗 Addressing systemic factors that influence tissue repair

In autoimmune conditions, pain is rarely purely inflammatory; it often has a structural component that develops alongside it.

A comprehensive approach starts with the right conversation. Book your complimentary 15-minute consultation today. Link in bio.

Last Friday, Matthew and I met with our wonderful Pilates instructors, Gokben, Melissa, Erin and Beverley, for a lovely dinner together at Brother Marcus.

Running a clinic is not just about treatments and sessions. It’s about the people behind it, the conversations, the shared ideas, the laughter, and the care we all bring to the work we do every day.

We feel incredibly grateful to have such thoughtful, talented women supporting our clients and bringing so much warmth to the studio.

A very special evening with our team, and many more Wellthy socials to come 🥂
