Yasa Azerbaycan!

It was such a great pleasure welcoming Shahla Esmaili, a member of the historic minority of Qashqai Turks, to our dance classes in London.
The Qashqai people, a Turkic tribal confederation in Iran, communicate using the Oghuz Turkic language, also known as the Qashqai language.
We thought it would be a great addition to our event to experience a traditional Qashqai dance in traditional attire - a first for many of us - and it was indeed a very enriching experience.
As people of Azerbaijani descent, we can envision a seamless connection with the Qashqai culture. The allure of the "Man Koroghluyam" music is a brilliant example.

"It was beyond our expectations"- this was the sentiment we heard most from our dearest guests yesterday. We were thrilled to experience such a special connection with the audience through dancing, singing, conversing, and celebrating the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and also our kins in Turkey and Iran.
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, as well as many new ones! We were touched by the genuine interest and warmth from our guests. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day truly special.

There are so many highlights to share - this one is the performance by our AzDanceUK group, which was made possible by our dance instructor, Sakina Mukhtarli, in just four lessons and rehearsals at home! Getting all the movements right and synchronised with each other was our biggest challenge, and I think we managed quite well in the end.🤩

Please follow Azerbaijan Dance UK for dance lessons for kids and adults starting in September. We’d love to see more of you join us to share the joy of social dancing and possibly perform together at various events!

Special thanks to the Azerbaijani Diaspora Foundation & Diaspora Committee led by Mr. Fuad Muradov, our ever-supportive ambassador Mr. Elin Suleymanov and his family, our founder and the Agsaqqal of the British Azerbaijani community Dr. Ali bey Atalar, and the British European Azerbaijani School led by Sabina Rakcheyeva and Sabina Guliyeva.
