The perfect sentiment for a bank holiday Monday. Keep those long weekend plans going! 😎

Every year more than 50% of us set New Year resolutions, but according Forbes 80% get abandoned by February 😬

Why do so many resolutions fail? We often think goals need to be grand and monumental, but small accomplishments can be just as meaningful.

For most of us, breaking down a big picture goal into bitesize steps is more realistic and attainable. And even if you don't achieve what you set out to do, the process of simply setting goals can enhance your wellbeing - it’s a win, win💡

If your resolutions feel like a distant memory, now is a great time to reset! To help you get started, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide on creating personal SMART goals - find it on our blog (link in the bio).

P.s. You’re more likely to achieve your goal if you tell someone about it, so fire away in the comments 👇

You've heard it all before, exercise makes you healthier! Yet, 1 in 4 adults (worldwide) are physically inactive.

Along with physical barriers to exercise, there’s psychological hurdles that can be even harder to overcome!

When you see someone exercising on the TV or in an advert, what do they look like? Are they young, slim, muscular?

There’s almost no representation of diverse bodies, ages and abilities in exercise, so you would be forgiven for thinking exercise isn’t for you if you don’t identify as the ‘athletic type’.

Are any of these common thoughts holding you back?

👉 “It’s too late to start” - Evidence shows that age is not a barrier to improve your fitness and strength.

👉 “My condition means I can’t exercise'' - Don't let injury, disability, illness, or limited stamina get in the way - unless your GP has advised you not to exercise.

👉 “Exercise will make my pain worse” - Exercise is a common treatment for conditions that cause pain including arthritis and chronic pain.

However, if you feel sharp pain while exercising, you should stop and get advice from your GP or Physio before continuing.

It’s National Public Health Week (NPHW) and as part of their Keep it Moving challenge, we’ve launched a brand new workout on our YouTube channel!

👉 NPHW is all about campaigning for inclusive and accessible health policies. Did you know, disability and injury is the number 1 reason people don’t exercise?

👉 High intensity exercise works great for some of us, but not everyone can (or wants to) put their body through a gruelling workout. It’s totally possible to build up your strength and stamina - without leaving your seat!

Our seated exercise classes will get your muscles fired up and those exercise endorphins going, while being kind on your body. Don’t be fooled into thinking seated workouts are easy, even Rosie felt this one.

So what are you waiting for? Follow the link in our bio to get started with a workout.

The pandemic has altered our lives in ways we could never have imagined. For many, the silver lining of lockdowns has been the mental and physical space to reassess their priorities: from thinking about career and location to how they spend their time or money.

For me, this period has brought clarity on what makes me feel happy and fulfilled and what doesn’t! How has your purpose (otherwise known as 'ikigai') changed over the past two years?

Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, or just enjoying some ‘me time’ tomorrow - we hope your day is filled with love, peace and joy.

~ From all of us at Spry x

20/12/2021

Another unusual year, almost behind us.

The last week before Christmas can be a race to finish line. Gift buying, food prep, holiday parties (yes, zoom counts), closing up the office and everything in between. Festive burnout is real!

Self care often falls to the bottom of our checklist in the festive season, to make room for all these extra things to do.

This year I decided not to host, cook or exchange gifts (N.B. Santa didn't forget the kids) - Quite the grinch 😉

I wanted to make time for reading, resting and being present with my partner - not tending to the turkey, which is in the more capable hands of our local restaurant. It's been liberating to let go of traditions, and claim this time for R&R. Guest writer, Sara recently shared a quote that comes to mind - “We all have all the time there is. No one can tell you how to use your time. It is yours.” Eleanor Roosevelt.

If you’re running on empty, and can’t bow out from the festivities, remember to carve out time for yourself during the holidays. Exercise that combines breathwork and movement is especially good for calming the mind. There’s lots out there to choose from, including our restorative stretch class at bit.ly/spryworkouts.
