Leaking when you run is rarely JUST a Pelvic floor issue....it’s an entire body force absorption issue

Yes, your pelvic floor matters.

But it’s only one part of a much bigger system.

Every time your foot hits the ground while running, your body has to absorb forces of around 2–3 times your body weight. That load isn’t meant to be handled by your pelvic floor alone.

Your:
✔️ Glutes
✔️ Feet
✔️ Calves
✔️ Inner thighs
✔️ Core
✔️ Hips
..should all be sharing the work.

When those muscles aren’t strong enough or aren’t working well together, your pelvic floor often has to pick up the slack. Over time, it can become overloaded, and for many women, that shows up as leaking.

So yes, strengthening your pelvic floor is important... but it’s often not the whole answer

so While you’re working on strengthening any imbalances throughout your body, here are two running hacks that may help reduce the load on your pelvic floor:

1️⃣ Increase your cadence.

More steps means a shorter stride. Shorter stride = less force travelling up through the pelvic floor with every landing. Think about trying to gradually increase your cadance to around 170 steps per minute (or whatever you can)

2️⃣ Lean very slightly from your ankles.
Think about keeping your rib cage stacked over your pelvis. This helps your diaphragm and pelvic floor work together as a team, improves trunk support and puts your glutes in a better position to fire and contribute to absorbing impact.

Remember...

Leaking isn’t always a “weak pelvic floor” problem.

Sometimes it’s a load management problem and resolving it means having a full body approach to fixing the imbalances that are putting too much stress on your Pelvic floor. Keep posted for news of our upcoming Mojo Run Hub where we will share lots of tips and exercises for improving your running as a woman in midlife.

If you’re new here, we thought it was about time we introduced ourselves. 👋

We’re both 45-year-old mums, England Athletics Run Coaches and Level 3 Personal Trainers with a passion for helping women discover just how strong they’re capable of being.

We both left careers that no longer fulfilled us because we wanted to help women feel stronger, healthier and more confident through movement.

We noticed that there weren’t any clubs out there for midlife women who wanted more than just a social run, but less than the pressure and competitiveness of a traditional running club.

We asked our members and they said they wanted structure. They wanted coaching and wanted to improve.
But they also wanted to feel supported, encouraged and never judged.

So we built Mojo Run Club isn’t just about helping women run further or faster. Our clubs provide structure, coaching and a clear path to progress.

And we’re only just getting started.

Our dream is to bring Mojo Run Club to communities all over the UK, helping more women discover the joy of running while creating opportunities for other women to build flexible careers doing something they love.

We would love to hear from you if you’d like a club like Mojo in your local area or if you think you’d be able to start your own with our expert guidance 💪🏼🏃🏻‍♀️

You still think you’re slow…

But you’re doing things that felt impossible a few months ago.

If you’re ticking any of these boxes, your body is changing…even if your pace isn’t (yet).

We often hear about these little wins in BEGIN. Women who started out barely making it to the end of the road, now running 30 minutes without stopping. All Becs they were consistent with their homework runs and they kept showing up.

Slow and consistent will always beat fast and burnt out. speed will come (if you want it to) but all in good time!
